I am also coming around to the fact that Roy is kinda slow (duh!)

But he's a hard hitter, no one disputes that.

So, do we trade him?
if so, what value can we get for him?

Do we bulk him up (legally, like with beer and mama's home cooking) and make him a linebacker?

Do we bench him?

What?

Do exactly what they are doing except bring him off the field on obvious passing downs. To do that we need to go get another safety that can actually cover a TE. I'd be satisfied with that until its cost effective to trade or release him. He still has value as a tackler on 1st and 2nd down. Thats when he should be on the field.

He's best used as a focal point of arguments among fans.

Actually, it seems like the current Cowboys coaches must be using Williams pretty well these days. The pass defense hasn't given up many big scoring plays overall. So something is going right.

Shockey is a very good TE. He's going to do some damage if Eli routinely targets him. And that's what happened on Sunday. ... but better Shockey have a big day than their WRs.

Name a strong safety who is better in the NFC.

Since you asked ... here are some stats to consider.

Sacks P.Def Int FF F.Rec Tackles
Chris Harris 0.0 4 1 5 3 53
Atari Bigby 0.0 5 1 3 0 59
Jermain Phillips 1.0 8 3 0 0 53
Roy Williams 0.0 5 2 0 1 53
Adam Archeleta 1.0 3 1 0 1 48

If you look at game changing plays like turnovers (game changing plays are generally used to legitimize RW's "elite" status), some might say that the first 3 are playing better ... especially Chris Harris (Carolina).

Stats are taken from NFL.com. Not all SS are listed.

This is what I would do with roy williams, if you see a strong safety that you can get in the draft in the 2nd round, then trade roy williams, package him with clevelands # 1 pick, and move up and get mcfadden or an impact wr or rb. Then, with the cowboys other # 1 pick, which hopefully will be the 32nd next year, trade down, get an extra # 2 or 3 and draft a safety;, wr or rb that you didnt get with high pick and draft a cb. That should have you loaded for years to come with value impact players, you could even with the 32nd pick, use your # 2 pick or # 3 pick and trade up to get another impact player in 1st round. What the cowboys need is some young impact players, since T O and glenn are getting real old, and we dont have a breakaway rb.

Another scenario :

Trade RW
Move Hamlin to SS
Watkins in at FS (He is seasoned a bit now and has player pretty well this season)

If the "consensus" around the league is that Roy-Dub is no good, then WHY would a team trade a top 5 pick for him plus a low 1st rounder?! If he's worth that much then I'm thinking he wouldn't be on our ficticious "trading block". Look, he is what he is, let Stewart and Phillips continue to put him in where he's most effective and live with the results (w/ his contract that's pretty much all Dallas can do)! Besides, I have too many #31 jerseys for him to be traded!

Would you like to put up their stats for the last few years? Or are you gonna just grade them through 9 games?

IF you listen to Wade Phillips comments...he is a big fan of Hamlin. He mentioned this week that Hamlin is the leader of DBs. You never hear Phillips talk about Roy Williams leadership qualities. I observed this myself in person and saw Hamlin guiding everyone on defense and was very vocal. Roy on the other hand routinely took his helmet off (wiped his face) and would just walk off on his own. So...considering this I think Dallas has two options:

Option #1:

Move Hamlin to SS (which some say he is better suited for) and then move Henry over to FS (I think he would be a pro-bowl player at that position). Draft a CB or just live with Reeves as your other CB (who has gotten progressively better). This DB group would have alot of speed and is probably better prepared to handle offenses who use multiple receivers. They would be a little weaker in run support.

Option #2:

Move Hamlin to SS and let Watkins start at FS (Watkins is starting to get few turnovers). You would have alot of range with these two guys (who both run pretty good)

* I think its a no-brainer to move Hamlin to SS. The question becomes...who plays FS....Henry or Watkins. I would trade Roy Williams for Draft picks. Get what you can for him now because I think Roy (mentally) has already moved on from football (ie. see his interview his rookie year....he only wanted to play pro-football for 5 years or so).

The 3 players he suggested are better than Roy have played 12 season between them (including this season) and they have a combined 14 INTs.

Roy has played 6 seasons and has 19 INTs.
