Atari Bigby 0.0 5 1 3 0 59

...

some might say that the first 3 are playing better

I'll take each of these in turn, but let me start with Atari.

Bigby has given up some very big plays and shows up on the highlights in a negative fashion all the time. He gave up a huge TD pass to Greg Olsen that allowed Chicago to get back in the game and win. He was called for pass interference against Samie Parker, which should have been a TD but he couldn't hang on, that allowed Kansas City to take the lead which they held until 3 minutes left in the game.

Just take a chance to watch the highlights of Green Bay's games or even sit through one and you will see Atari showing up more times on the negative side than the positive.

All they really need to do is play the 3-3-5 a little more on obvious passing downs with Roy being on of the 3 linebackers. I have been one of Roy's biggest critics, but there is absolutely no way to get value for a guy like Roy. Rest assured, if we traded him, another defensive coordinator would find a way to use him and we would regret it for a long time.

Name a strong safety who is better in the NFC.

I like Roy.

Some names come to mind in the NFC, but you'd just jaw ad infinitum. And, in he end, it'd be subjective.

Let's put it this way: Roy is no Troy Polamalu or Ed Reed (both in the AFC). But I wish he were.

Do we bulk him up (legally, like with beer and mama's home cooking) and make him a linebacker?

Trading Roy is absurd... He is a beast by presence alone...

I just think he is too bulky, which it seems to me, it impedes his movement somewhat. My perception, in regards to open field play, was that in his first two years, he looked thinner and was flying all over the place. I just think he needs to lose some of the muscle mass, like Bradie James did.

Troy Polamula 7 passes defended - 0 ints - 28 tackles. team is 7-2
Ed Reed 8 passes defended - 5 int - 19 tackles. team is 4-5
Roy Williams 3 passes defended - 2 int - 41 tackles. team is 8-1

Seems to me they are all doing what they are best at. Roy is staying close to the line and stopping the run and still has 2 ints. The other 2 are not tackling at all.

That kills that argument...until the next folks, stay tuned.

I think we are pretty much set at safety as long as Watkins keeps improving. Roy's coverage has actually been pretty good this year and has been over-criticized by many writers who don't watch game film, don't know basic coverages and responsibilities, and often have unrealistic standards for Roy. The Giants took some advantage on Roy by getting Shockey on him one-on-one as a WR, but it wasn't nearly as bad as people claim (Roy wasn't responsible for Shockey on many plays) and not many SS's work well against a TE like Shockey, especially one man-to-man like that.

My biggest concern for Roy is that he seems to have lost some of that dynamic closing speed he once had. I think part of it is that he's not completely comfortable with the system, but I also think he's probably a bit too conscious of his play in pass coverage and may also not want to make the big hits anymore.

Still, I could easily live with the way the safeties are playing this year and hopefully with them getting more comfortable with the scheme, they'll improve.

Roy's detractors says he's just plum slow.
And believe, me, there are plenty around here.
I never have understood the animus directed at him.

But, I, too, believe he's lost some closing speed.
So maybe he should lose weight? Hit the weight room for more leg strength?

Whatever the reason, I miss seeing him play with the same abandon he had in years past.

He hasn't lost closing speed. He just doesn't come running full speed smashing into any and everything anymore. He said he's conscious of what that does to his body long-term, and I think it's a pretty smart move. He had plenty of closing speed catching Brandon Jacobs from behind coming from the opposite side on Sunday.

Wade Phillips won't do this, but I'd bench him. Maybe it'd be a wake up call for him.

He's playing subpar right now and it's clearly evident that it's because he doesn't have that fire and desire he used to have. He's realized that with his big contract, pro bowls under his belt, and his recognizable name, that he can't be touched and he can coast.

I've been watching him closely the last few weeks. I've always defended him and anyone else on this team while they wear the Star. No more with Roy. He takes plays off. He pretends like he's contributing by joining in on a tackle that's already been made by a teammate.

He used to always be around the ball, flying around the field, making plays. No longer.

He's missed more tackles this season than he's made big hits. Can anyone tell me the last big hit you remember by Roy Williams?

WRs used to fear coming in the middle of our defense because they knew the big hit is coming. Now they relish it because they know that Roy can't cover anymore.

So yeah, I'd bench him. Start Keith Davis in his place or move Hamlin to SS and Watkins in at FS.

Maybe it would wake him up and he'll realize that he isn't untouchable, and he needs to start working for a change, like the energetic inspiring rookie he once was.

I agree, theogt...

Right? Smart players do smart things. Why ruin your body in the first half of the season? Ya gotta wait until it counts!

I think RW has lost closing speed because he has let the "football experts"(fans) get into his head. I like him better now, he is more complete, he doesn't have as many bounce of tackles that he was victim of earlier in his career. I think he picks his spots for kill shots. He is becoming more of sure tackler and that will help in the long run. The cover skills will come along, you have to walk before you run, at least he made every tackle against shockey last weekend.

Would you like to put up their stats for the last few years? Or are you gonna just grade them through 9 games?

Typical thinking for a cant'-see-straight-cuz-I'm-such-a-Roy-lover.

Nice logic.

It's here and now sport, so who cares what they did three years ago, or last year even.

Three years ago, Romo was on the bench, so using your logic, because he hadn't thrown any passes, what's the point of having him start right now.

Here are some stats for your so-called "great" close-to-the-line SS:
Sacks = 0, Tackles for Losses = 0, and Forced Fumbles = 0.

For such a super-stud, those are pretty pedestrian stats.

For the record, I'd take Hamlin at SS, and Watkins at FS with Roy elsewhere any day.

At least then, we wouldn't have to "hide" our great SS.

David Garrard >>>>>>> Peyton Manning

After all, he has a better QB rating this year.

Before you start in on me, understand that I think any stats can be interpreted to fit any side of an argument, which was the point I was trying to make.

Stats are great and all, but they don't tell the entire story.

Oh wait ..... now I remember you ..... you are the guy who's every post is about how much Roy sucks .... all anyone has to do is look at your history kid .....

Some of you guys are ridiculous.

I understand that message boards are here for all of us fans to state our opinions, and I, like you, choose to do so.

I'm glad some of you think the Roy's the greatest thing ever. I think otherwise.

For every stat you show me to "prove" how great Roy is, I'm sure I can find one to argue my side.

If you don't care my opinion, you can always ignore my posts.
