And how old was Roger when he got started....27 or so?
Probably. That's what a 4-year naval commitment will do to ya. :)

I think if the question was who would you pick to start a team (any cowboy player ever) .... it wouldn't even be close.

Deion #7??? Oh man. :lmao:
Deion was in his prime when he was with the Cowboys, and he spent a lot of years here.. so he will be considered a Falcon AND a Cowboy when he enters the Hall I believe.. and he is considered THE best and most dominant cover corner of all-time.. so I dont think that considering him the 7th best Cowboy of all-time is laughable at all..

HAHA!! did i EVER say that Roger was a pushover?? NO!! I had to pick ONE single player from each team! I showed you that I had Staubach ranked as the THIRD best Cowboy ever.. and as impressive as Staubach's numbers are, Emmitt's are far more impressive.. Im not cutting down Roger by pumping up Emmitt!
You would have to push Staubach out of the no. 1 slot for him not to be there. Maybe it's a generational thang...

Another thing on Brooks besides.............

Only active player, and just the fifth player in NFL history, to be selected to eight straight Pro Bowls, earn AP Defensive Player of the Year honors and win a Super Bowl.....

His eight consecutive Pro Bowls rank him tied for sixth in NFL history for most consecutive Pro Bowls by a linebacker...

Sammy Baugh is the best Commander ever.
I considered him.. to be honest, the Commanders didnt have that many GREAT players to choose from.. but in the end, I didnt really like Baugh's numbers (187 TDs, 203 INTs) that much.. I liked Green's domination and durability for 20 years at a position where most people lose a step by the time they turn 30..

Fair enough I'm sure you didn't want to put all QB's in there either, but to be fair to Sammy, I want to quote some numbers of his that are pretty amazing.

He led the league in passing 6 times, punting avg. 4 times, and interceptions once. He was the only player in league history to lead the league in an offensive, defensive, and special teams category at some point in his career. When he retired he owned almost every passing record and was one of the best punters of all-time.

nope.. Manning threw 125 TDs and 173 INTs.. Rickey Jackson made 6 Pro Bowls and was the anchor of one of the best defenses of the early nineties.. and was the best player on the Saints' best teams they ever had..
Post a poll on a Saints website. I bet they'd disagree with you. Manning was the only player they had for a long time. Players from that era call him one of the best players of the era. That's the shortcoming of stats. They often don't tell enough.

yeah, that is pretty dang impressive.. and he was one of the first generation forward pass QBs.. I really did give him a lot of consideration..

I second that ... though I gave Bart Starr alot of consideration.
the Packers had a lot of players to choose from.. Favre, Starr, and Reggie White were the other real considerations but I had to go with Hutson.. he was the first "great" reciever and completely dominated his time.. he is still considered by most to be the 2nd best reciever all time behind Rice.. I would have gone with White, but he played half his career with the Eagles..

I agree Hostile, Lord Farve is the man in GB. MVP's, passing records, stats, games started consecutively, wins, and a Super Bowl ring.... he's had it all.

I would post a poll on the Saints website, but Im afraid that it would take a couple weeks before I got any responses.. :D

These things are subjective so don't think I'm being overly critical, your choices are good ones, but I'm sure you put this list up so people could disagree intelligently with it.

In that spirit ... I'm not even sure Ricky Jackson was the best LB on those Saints teams. Sam Mills could give you a hell of an arguement there. Sam left NO early to goto Carolina were he might still be considered their best of all-time there also, I know he's the only player in the Panther HOF.

yep, Mills was another Saint that I considered.. he and Jackson were close.. I gave Jackson the edge because he dominated for a longer period of time with the Saints and made two more Pro Bowls with the Saints.. and yes, Mills is in the Panther HOF, but he only played three years with them and made one Pro Bowl.. his coaching tenure with them, and I hate to say it, his unfortunate premature death I believe had more to do with his making the Panther HOF.. I believe that Peppers has been the better, more dominant player for them..

Has to be Bob Lilly...

Bob Lilly was THE dominant DT during the era he played.

Emmitt was always having to overcome Barry Sanders. And I don't know if he ever did.

I would also have a problem in my heart saying Emmitt was better than Walter Payton or Jim Brown.

I would have no such problem saying that Bob Lilly was the greatest DT ever.
