Every Team's Greatest Player of All-Time

I agree with you on Green for the Skins. 20 years with the same team in the NFL.

The only sadness I have is that he had to spend the last half of his career on mediocre/poor teams and that he wasn't here for Gibbs' return.

I considered him.. to be honest, the Commanders didnt have that many GREAT players to choose from.. but in the end, I didnt really like Baugh's numbers (187 TDs, 203 INTs) that much.. I liked Green's domination and durability for 20 years at a position where most people lose a step by the time they turn 30..

Sammy Baugh was the greatest Commander player by a LONG margin. Not only was he the best QB of his era, along with Sid Luckman (please don't compare QB stats from the 30s & 40s with todays QBs), but he was also the best punter EVER and an All-Pro DB.

I rank him tied with Jim Thorpe as the greatest players of the first half of the 20th Century.

That said, Darrell Green was my favorite Commander player.

Deion Sanders shouldn't make any team's list of greatest players because he never played anywhere long enough.

If you want a guy for the Falcons I would go with Tommy Nobis, Jeff Van Note, or Jessie Tuggle.

Oh, and I would say Bob Lilly was the greatest Cowboy player ever. The nearly unanimous choice as the greatest DT ever to play the game by anyone who saw him play.

Deion was in his prime when he was with the Cowboys, and he spent a lot of years here.. so he will be considered a Falcon AND a Cowboy when he enters the Hall I believe.. and he is considered THE best and most dominant cover corner of all-time.. so I dont think that considering him the 7th best Cowboy of all-time is laughable at all..
Dude get serious. Primetime played for the Cowboys for 5 years and he is the #7 greatest player of all time for us????? Please!!! Here are a few regular season stats........

63 starts
14 int's
34 pass def
6 td's

Forget #7 overall, he isn't even the best CB to play for the Cowboys.

based on stats maybe...... based on shutting down his WR, nobody has done it better wearing the Cowboy Uniform. He was dominate, in his prime with us.

Stats aren't everything........ if so Brett Favre is the Best Packer ever....

Favre isn't even the greatest quarterback the Packers have ever had.

I'm not saying he wasn't a dominant player. Just that calling him the #7 best overall player in the history of the Dallas Cowboys (after playing for them for only 5 years) is wrong.

And Farve didnt?

HOFer's galore on those 60's Packers teams.

The 90's version besides Favre are limited to Reggie White and maybe ... maybe Leroy Butler ... both of whom were located on the opposite side of the ball.

You are definitely on point with your list. I agree with Rickey over Archie. Archie might be the most popular Saint of all time but Rickey was definitely the best player.

Same for Catch 22 over the Dodger. Lilly should be a very close second but we are so fortunate to have so many to choose from. Not sure about Deion being so high on the list though. Long time Cowboys like Irvin, Everson, Erik Williams, Calvin Hill, belong on the list before a hired gun like Deion. I won't take anything away from him on the field but personally I never considered him a true Blue Cowboy. He was a hired gun who at one time was our pyriah and then finally saw the light and come from the Dark Side.

I would go Derrick Thomas over Bobby Bell for the Chiefs.

Antonio Freeman?
Desmond Howard?
Eugene Robinson?
Sanatana Dotson?
Adam Timmerman?
Marco Rivera?
Keith Jackson?

And how old was Roger when he got started....27 or so?
You might not be old enough to remember but Roger graduated from the Academy after winning the Heisman. The he did his four years in the military before joining the Cowboys. And initially he had to sit behind Craig Morton before splitting time with him and then finally taking over the job causing Morton to move on to Denver where we beat them in the Superbowl. So Roger probably was 27-28 before taking over completely.

Although those players certainly had an impact, they arent HOFer's... and certainly aren't comparable to Starr's list of teammates which included Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor, Forest Gregg, Ray Nitschke, Herb Adderly, Willie Davis, Willie Wood, Henry Jordan, and Jim Ringo ... all of whom are HOFer's.

And all of those Hall of Famers wouldnt have even be able to compete with the players Farve and company had to play against. The point is, both had great teams around them.

And yet there are some, like yourself, who consider Staubach's accomplishments (which occurred in a 9-year span) to be lesser than that of Emmitt Smith's (which happened over 15 years/13 of which were in Dallas). Both are true hall of fame-caliber players. But in terms of which player established the Dallas Cowboys franchise as the embodiment of NFL excellence, determination and legendary status, Staubach does not take a backseat to Smith. I love Smith. Always have. Always will, but he made his mark atop the winning foundation which Staubach had already laid. So, I respectfully and strongly disagree.

I agree that Emmitt is the greatest Cowboy of all time. Hell, he's the all-time rushing leader!

I can't of too many QB's I'd take all time instead of Roger. Great on the field and better off...... and in the clutch their was nobody better....

Montana
Marino
