Everyone in Dallas Area, stay inside and stay safe

Bias media didn't help this.

I have absolutely no idea and will NEVER understand why people can't sit back and wait for evidence to come out. The Alton Sterling case is open and shut for me. The other is up in the air and I'm going to WAIT until more comes out. In this digital age, seeing these stuff happen on video it's easy to get emotional. With the amount of crime, there will be incidents of cops doing wrong in high pressure situations.

There is no justification for what happened last night. None. There were countless people PEACEFULLY protesting, even taking pictures with cops and talking to them. Dallas was coming together, and some lowlifes had to ruin it and get people riled up again. I saw some disgusting tweets on my Twitter today.

Just all around a really messed up situation, far too much emotion with little logical discussions happening.

The media is the root cause of most of this country's problems. You can no longer tune in and get the news. You get a slanted political opinion of the news that draws more ratings. We are on the verge of a racial/political civil war and the media is driving it.

i have to take a step back and say i'm not a fan of "the media made me do it" approach. don't get me wrong, i can't stand todays version of the media and for the most part, agree with you. but when we flock to "make stupid people famous" that's where the traffic goes and that's where the money is and the media, yea, will go after the money. they are a business in the end.

they could do more i suppose but then they'd likely be out of business and we'd be left with a ton of self-funded blogging sites and extreme opinions.

and i had my "fill" of the media and their commentary last summer in the mckinney tx incident where the officer had a black teen girl in a bikini on the ground. a LOT was happening and the ONLY videos we had were from the kids crashing the party.

yet CNN was there acting like mystery science theater tell me what was happening even though they didn't know more than we did. journalism is pretty much dead as i knew it.

Really couldn't agree more. I'd have to say, you're simply an idiot if you believe these cops go out with the intent to kill unarmed black men, or children in Tamir Rice's case. Even if they were indifferent to the life they were taking, they don't want the attention or the headache that it brings these days. And you'd also have to be an idiot to believe that these are just isolated incidents that have nothing to do with race, but everyone is so extreme in their views these days, that those in the middle just aren't heard.

Yup.

I often take the middle ground I view correct.

But the extremeists dont like it...I've been called a cop hater, racist, terrorist supporter, etc. etc. They dont want the middle heard so they've come up with all kinds of labels to silence it.

This is what I served and fought for my country for 8 years to do? Be quiet or get shot?

I don't think so "Leo" ....That's not how this country is supposed to work.

LOL. I don't think the conversation is "be quiet or get shot", but I guess if you want to sensationalize it that's your choice. The fact is, the courts have decided that citizens are to obey law enforcement commands when in contact. Obviously it has to be reasonable. My point is, you are not going to win by arguing, fighting, or escalating the situation. Since you were in the military (thank you by the way), I'm sure you're aware of the Use of Force model. LEOs ramp up their responses (verbal, hands on, deadly force) based on the actions of the person they are dealing with. An LEO does NOT have to wait until he's shot at before using deadly force. I'm being simplistic here. Obviously there are many factors involved such as the size of the individual, the sex (female officer v. male), criminal record of the individual if known, fighting skill of the individual, weapons involved, etc. The bottom line is, if you are nice to almost all (some bad apples I agree) LEOs, you will be treated in the same manner.

And on the other hand, how about LEO's stop treating citizens as threats instead of people. The bottom line is, if you are nice to almost all (some bad apples I agree) civilians, you will be treated in the same manner.

Again, in today's environment LEOs have to be ever vigilant. An LEO never knows what's waiting for him/her during a stop or in any other situation especially when you have groups in society promoting the killing of LEOs. I don't think you have any idea how tough the job is today. I have the benefit of being a Federal Agent. While I face some of the same things street cops face, it isn't to the degree of the unknown that they face. I'm a criminal investigator meaning I investigate crimes that have already occurred. For a street cop, every stop/contact could be their last. It happens all the time and is becoming more common. It's a toxic environment.

This exactly .......

And neither do civilians when dealing with supposed law enforcement officers ....... That's what you fail to understand .

And for a citizen, especially a black citizen, every encounter will law enforcement could be your last. This is the issue, no trust on either side. there used to be a real community between people and law enforcement. Police would know the community they served and the community would know the officer. Mutual trust and respect is needed FROM BOTH SIDES. These days, with the militarization of police and aggressive tactics, you loose the community your suppose to protect.

The prevalence of no-knock warrants are a prime example. So many situations that turned deadly could be avoided by a simple knock on the door and talking to people instead of busting down the door with no notice and neutralizing everyone inside.

You can be both very supportive of those in blue and have an understanding that certain populations of citizens are targeted and profiled just by the way they look, leading to unnecessary deaths that do not fit the crime with which they were originally stopped about. And the fact that it occurs at such a higher rate, is in fact a problem and evident of something much deeper. Pointing out that problem should be something everyone does, it should not be met with resistance. Coming to a solution is something everyone should be fighting for. Persistence of this problem makes for a more hostile environment, both for the citizens being stigmatized and profiled, but also for the cops(majority) who are out to do their job as they now have to deal with a populace that is afraid of them. #RIP to those in blue and #RIP to those who suffered at the hands of those sworn to help them. The reality is that there is a common enemy that both of those groups share who has made life difficult for both of them. We're all in this together and we should make it work and not be content with maintaining the system with which we exist.

Awesome post. We should lock the thread on that note because it can't be topped.

Take a few minutes and Google John cena patriotism. Something positive on an otherwise horrific day
