I beg to differ....the Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys is HUGE!!!

Noway does Notre Dame even come close.
I bet you that Charlie Weiss would leave Notre Dame to come coach the Cowboys if there wasn't a 21 million buyout to his contract this year.I totally agree with you.

Wrong on all accounts

Notre Dame is the ONLY Sports Team in AMERICA to have every SINGLE game televised on National TV - every game they play is shown througout America. Hence Weiss' massive contract. ND are more popular than the Cowboys ND have more fans - ND has been around far longer - ND do better TV numbdrs than anyone in their sport.

I hope you were kidding they dont even do the best numbers against their competition

NEW YORK - Notre Dame football on NBC earned a 3.6 average rating this season, the highest in more than a decade and a 44 percent increase over last year.

Cowboys games on national TV get about 7 times higher ratings :laugh2:

The Yankees are an Int'l machine...they have their own Network which is the richest in all of Sports - the YES Network is the #1 Regional network there is. All b/c of the Yankees ...The Yankees play to 4 million people at home a year - they play to 98% Sellouts -the highest in Sports - The Texas Stadium crowd is gone by the mid 4th if they're down.

I am sure you can prove all of this right?

Don't ever EVER compare the Yankees to an expansion team in Dallas.
Ever.

When it comes to popularity the Cowboys dwarf the yankees sorry. Comparing baseball to any football team is sad.

To put it plain and simple, the head coaching job of the Dallas Cowboys, along with manager of the New York Yankees, are the 2 most highly publicized, prestigic marquee jobs in all of sports. All the names that have been thrown out today, are going to have a big interest in this job.Even the guys like Jeff Fisher, who is already under contract, are going to be interested.A guy like Pete Carrol, who has turned down numerous chances to return to the NFL,are going to be interested. It is going to be interesting to see what happens, but it is all up to Jerry.

This was the case at one time, sadly Jerry Jones is not a desirable man to work with if you are a true football guy.

I keep reading how everyone wants rex ryan. I like his style. It is good, but without the players ozzie newsome keeps delivering him is he any good? So go ahead and send me rex ryan, but make sure and put ozzie newsome in his hip pocket.

However that wont happen. Go read what ozzie newsome and many other true nfl gm's and coaches think of jones.

In most scenarios he is a punchline. He undermines his coaches with his comments and oversells his team..He has made this a job most nfl guys with some experience would not touch.

I hope he can fix that. Like many here who attack parcells for living on his past, jerry jones is guilty of that also. He has done nothing but take this organization to a lower level. Even the winning came with many problems.

Steve young told michael irvin on sunday countdown on espn sunday that he should have been ashamed to only win 3 superbowls with the talent the cowboys had. That is a shot at Jerry for screwing up.

I hope jerry has learned from his mistakes, because those who dont are bound to repeat them. One more mistake from him and he could take this franchise to the lowest depths it has ever been.

I have faith in him not to blow it, but you have to hold your breath.

Yankees are the Commanders of MLB.....$200 mill payroll and cant win squat.

You can keep your beloved Yankees, and your Golden Domers get hammered every time they play a ranked team. Watching ND beat up on the academies is nothing to brag about

It would not surprise me at all if Jones paid the $21 mill, money is not a problem for Jones and he needs a big name coach for the new stadium.

That's true. I wish I could remember the article where I read that.

I live in Virginia (yeah, I live around a bunch of Commanders) and I saw EVERY Cowboys game this year except for the Arizona game. That in itself speaks loudly to me - that they'd play so many Dallas games in enemy territory. Dallas must be doin' something right.;)

I hope they continue to be loved and hated - that way, I can watch all the games here in VA almost like I'm living in Texas.

Just look at all Nationally Televised games the Cowboys play and sometime take a look a the Forbes list of most valuable franchises, then remeber we have a brand new stadium on the way.

Yes, and Steve won how many superbowls with the talent on his 49ers teams? Certainly two less than he might have if they hadn't lost NFC championships in '92 and '93 to Dallas. That may provide just a little context for his comments as well.

Maybe it was the 49ers organization that screwed up even more. Wasn't it Eddie DeBartolo that got himself in a mess over gambling fraud? There's an owner screwing up for you.

LINKS?

The book is called next man up by john feinstein. Go read it. It is a good book. Billick and newsome have a couple "nice" things to say about jones.

We had more talent than the niners. We should have continued winning, you think 96-99 were not dissapointing, we should still have been winning, its not about steve young.

Some of this stuff in this thread is amazing. The ignorance factor is incredible.

Surveys done over the last 10 years pretty much show that the hot teams of the day are always going to be on the list AT THAT TIME.

The Yankees pretty much are THE baseball franchise- no real arguement there.

Pro football the raiders were for a long time - now they have dropped a lot.
the Cowboys are the most consistent performer as regards sales, interest, etc and a lot of that is there even when they are not winning.

ND is the College Football team that has been shown once again as the most consistenly mentioned- like the Cowboys. Year in year out.

Oh, by the way- fans of Penn State and Georgia Tech, Purdue and UCLA resent being called service academies( oh, and ask BC about Navy)

Yes, Feinstein. Washington Post writer for many years with stops at SI and National Sports Daily. NPR commentator extraordinaire. East Coast flavor indeed.

All success stories have their dark sides, so it's no surprise Jones' contemporaries don't shower much praise on him. And I'm not a huge fan myself. To win, others have to lose. Imagine Bum Bright instead of Jones. Where would this organization be now? They can't all be Clint Murchison.

What you don't mention is that the book is primarily about the Ravens. Apparently Feinstein didn't feel comfortable writing about a team until Biscotti gave him virtually full access to the organization. If his portrayal of their management is neutral, small wonder. It's his neck of the woods.

But time permitting I'll see for myself what I think of it. I find his on-air style on the Sports Reporters a bit grating, however.

Links aren't that hard. :D
