OH, I'm not joining hands in this infatuation with Thompson.

The only good he has shown is his speed, I guess. Now when I think about it, I have yet to see him get a chance to show off his speed.

From What I have seen he has not run any faster than anyone else. We have seen Jones get up into a hole and get out of it and outrun people as well as make them miss.

Thompson, all we have seen is straight ahead running on Kickoff returns, and the kicker tackling him. He has yet to make it pass the LBs, he makes it to the corner at times but not always.

YPC, can be deceiving.
Right now I cannot say that he has all the goods, I and I know no one else has seen it all, in these games. Now the team may have seen it in practice, but we as fans have not seen it in the game.

We are really working off of the press that T2 has received and that one game he ran for 500yds. That was an exceptional game, and everyone that has done it was and is just as good as T2.

I bet everyone that has played football knows someone who has run for 400-500yds in a game.

I like our young RBs, Barber is just better in my opinion. At least right now. Barber is not a slouch in the speed dept. either.

He is a more polished RB than T2.

Right now, I think it is silly to right off either Barber or T2. T2 needs to show that he actually has some wiggle, we already know he has speed. Barber really hasn't had a chance to show what he can do yet, and judging his whopping 13 carries versus T2 and his 30+ carries is a little unfair to say the least, plus Barber had to shake off some rust after sitting out injured.

Give them both some time.....

Straight ahead speed guys sometimes are the easiest to take out. They tend to run high and can't cut and lack vision.... JJ get well fast!

Emmitt was never a speed guy.

I've been watching the NFL for 30 years. And one position in particular - tailback.

I happen to think this kid has got the goods. (And knew Lee didn't).

It doesn't spell 'infatuation'..it means after long years of watching burst, moves, vision, power, and speed, you feel confident to at least express your opinion when you think you see talent.

but TT doesnt have moves, vision or power...basically he is an upright, straight line speed guy...

No one here knows how much vision he has yet.

And frankly I haven't seen enough of him in the open field to say he has no moves, either.

He could turn out to be another Cason or Lee.

But imo he won't, and apparently Bill Parcells thinks he's got something too.

At this point, this argument is sheer opinion on both sides.

But the opinion that doesn't knock him or his supporters is going to be more palatable, at least til he proves he isn't anything special.

However, if TT is useful as just one more means to divide the fanbase and trash it at the same time by calling us 'cultists', by all means, carry on.

Bingo LT...I was gonna essentially the same thing as this...

Unless someone held out on me last night with $340 million powerball drawing...The crytal balls haven't fortold anyones greatness or lack there of on the Rookies.

I would like to see them both gain a 100 yards this week.

Good morning all !

Forget trying to bin players as "speed" guys to satisfy your own agendas. Far and away the most important thing for a RB is his rushing production. Next comes play making ability, third is pass receiving, fourth is blitz pickup, and fifth is lead blocking.

The Barber scale has been all but bass ackwards. I strongly believe that running back is the one offensive position that is so instinctive you either have what it takes or you do not. Some "techniques" can be learned to improve receiving and blocking-- but play-making and rushing are NOT acquired skills. Give me one example of a player who LEARNED to become a playmaker-- you can't.

Dallas HAD to run out the clock and grind out first downs vs. Philadelphia and T2 delivered 70 yards rushing when everyone knew he was going to get the carries. Doesn't sound like a "speed" guy to me.

Meanwhile MBIII is still adjusting to the pro game and A-Train is proving worse at every aspect than MBIII. I'm rooting for Barber, but he's shown absolutely nothing rushing and a fat 0 in play making ability. He's very average as a receiver but shows good technique and is a solid pass blocker.
