They divide, that's the point.
Half of Philly's locker room to this day still support him (the one's that were there.). Half of them wanted to kick him in the teeth, and indeed he got in a brawl with Hugh Douglass and challenged the rest of the locker two days before he was suspended by the Eagels.
That's the point. Its not that 52 other guys blindly folllowTO like some pied piper into footbal disaster. Its that some of the weaker ones do, and others who can't stand his schtick (Witten?) pull away from him and divide the room.
You're either with TO or you're against him.
Now if you already have a Ray Lewis and other vocal leaders in place, some of the younger, more impressionable guys don't take the TO option. When he starts badnmouthing the coaches or the QB, there is another set of strong personalities in place to counteract it.
Philly didn't have that in McNabb, who a lot of the players already resented because they thought he got special treatment from management. TO just feuled that fire.
