I would love AP only if we are totally out of the ballpark in money figures for Demarco. I don't want to lose Murray to a 7mill and we pay AP 5mill I will be livid!!!

I just want you to imagine Romo and Dez playing like they did this past year with Adrian Peterson playing at his peak.

Holy bleep balls.

This is easy

1. AP will get reinstated before April
2. We will not sign Murray
2. We will sign AP

If it is Murray at 7.5m or AP at 5m it is a no brainer... go with AP.

Murray has had better stats than AP once in his career, while AP was on suspension.
They even played at the same college for the same coach and AP had better numbers.

Meanwhile what title do you hold now? Or have you held in the past?

Judging by the number of posts and likes you have, you are much better equipped to comment on the workings of he NFL...from your couch.

The problem with it is timing. You don't want to hedge your bet on Peterson and miss out on a FA in March.

IF Peterson is available in FA, and if the Cowboys could work cap-friendly deals with Peterson or Murray, then I'd prefer Peterson. If I could have Adrian Peterson, healthy and in top shape, even at 30, for three years vs. Murray (whom I really like) for four years, I'd take Peterson. The guy came back from knee surgery in record time and, with no bonafide passing game, came within nine yards of the all-time rushing record.

Demarco Murray is a very good all-around back, in the top five in the NFL. But Adrian Peterson is a future HOFer. He is the best back, bar none, of the past two decades.

Tony Romo is the Cowboys' best chance for a SB victory. If he was 30 or even 35 with no history of back surgery, I would not be so adament about winning NOW. Roger Staubach led the NFL in passing at ages 36 and 37. He was forced to retire in 1979 for medical reasons. However, the window for the Cowboys did not close immediately because Danny White was waiting in the wings, and so the Cowboys were a SB contender from 1980-82 with White at QB. There is no Danny White sitting behind Romo now.

Peterson behind this line with Dez outside to keep defenses from playing eight man fronts would be a thing of beauty to watch. He has more power than Murray to break through tackles and much better top speed to outrun LBs and DBs. Long runs by Murray that end up in kicking FGs would, with Peterson carrying the ball, end up in the Cowboys lining up for PATs.

It has been a long drought in Big D. When Romo retires who knows how long before the Cowboys are real contenders again.

I may be in the minority here but IMO if we can get AP go for it, and go after a quality pass rusher in FA too. Win SB 50. And 51. 1995 was a long time ago.

I can't see any way they're willing to pay him $10 million dollars more than the going rate for the position, especially after last year's circumstances.

Keeping him, they'd be signing up for more of:

2015
vikings.png
$12,750,000$15,400,000 $2,400,000
2016

$14,750,000-$15,000,000-
2017

$16,750,000-$17,000,000

Something's gotta give with that contract. Of that I have no doubt.
Yea, I mean they can cut him with no hit those last two years, so they're basically irrelevant.

Fwiw, I don't think they're going to keep him. But to this point, other than speculation, there's nothing to suggest that they are just going to let him go.

Following his ridiculous 2012 season Peterson has as many games under 3.5 yards per carry as he does over 5.0 yards per carry. And he's going to be a 30 year old running back.

Any significant salary cap space needs to be spent on Dez Bryant and on improving the defense. We have a great offensive line where we are going to have great balance offensively even if it is some combination of Dunbar, Williams, Randle, and a draft pick. We now need to have balance on both sides of the ball.

That's because teams just put 11 guys in the box and don't even acknowledge Ponder's presence.

I'm not following you. If they're not "going to keep him", how are they not "just going to let him go"?

Still not really clear, but it looks like we agree that he won't be back in Minnesota.

lol I don't get the confusion.

My thought is that they are going to let him go.

However, there has been absolutely nothing from the Minnesota camp to give any evidence to that. The idea that AP is going to be released is purely speculative.

The confusing part is anyone thinking the Vikings would say anything revealing their intentions. Not only does it not benefit them, but it's irrelevant. They can say whatever they want right now and it wouldn't matter.

Anything the Vikings are saying means less than nothing until March 10th or whenever Peterson counts on their books.

It is an easy choice (when talking strictly football). It is Adrian Peterson 100% of the time. We are talking record season with our line
