Ex-scout: Goff a top-five pick, Paxton Lynch the better prospect

If the quarterback position commands two of the top five picks in the 2016 NFL Draft, former Oakland Raiders scout Bruce Kebric has an idea of who might fit the suits: Cal quarterback Jared Goff and Memphis' Paxton Lynch. Kebric, who piled up 31 years of scouting service with the Raiders, told the San Jose Mercury News that Goff has the look of a top-five pick, but is his No. 2 QB prospect behind Lynch.
  • "I like Goff a lot," Kebric said. "Goff is probably the more accomplished passer right now, but Lynch is 6-foot-6 and a better pure athlete with a stronger arm."

Kebric isn't alone in his view of Lynch. FormerChicago Bears director of college scouting Greg Gabriel gathered some scouting feedback as well, and found a consensus view of Lynch as the better pro prospect than Goff. Lynch has led the Tigers (9-3) to the Dec. 30 Birmingham Bowl against Auburn with a career-best season, throwing 28 touchdown passes and just three interceptions. In drawing comparisons to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Lynch assembled a streak of eight consecutive games this season with 300-plus passing yards.

Just Youtube scouting but Goff's ball placement is outstanding. He throws his receivers open.
Lynch has a canon but his WR's are more often WIDE open.

I don't know who's better. But don't fall in love with the measurable. Measurables are tie breakers.

I am not a fan of Goff with the our first pick and yesterday's passing carnival with all those TD against the Falcons defense still did not pull me into his corner. I did however like that he took what Air Force gave, which was considerable. Still not there for a first rd top five pick of QB but maybe later I would be not so troubled.
IMO in late December how I like the QB's. But not top five pick.
Cook
Lynch
Goff
Kiel
Hackenberg

Hackenberg will be terrible.

The other ones I like. Although, I really don't know much about Kiel.

Good article but I have my doubts about any scout from the Raiders or Chicago talking about QBs. Neither franchise is known for their outstanding drafting or ability to find a QB in the draft or FA.

I'm not an expert, but I think the difference in release between Lynch and Goff is huge. Lynch has a little bit of a windup. Goff flicks the ball. Lynch has a bigger arm and throws a great deep ball. Goff just puts the ball exactly where it's supposed to be, when it's supposed to be there. Lynch is big and a great athlete. Goff throws extremely well on the run. I like Goff a little more, but I'd take either one top-ten.

Well, yeah. There are a few physical disadvantages to being a 6-6 QB. And a slower delivery might not be a problem for Lynch. I just think a quick release is a definite plus for any QB, especially if it comes with accuracy.

That is my problem do you see either of those guys being a franchise QB at some point. I think they are some real projects similar to what we had with Stephen McGee from Texas a&m.
My top ten draft pick goes to another position or gets traded.

We're close to the top. If you think Goff is your man for the future you go
get him even in a trade up. I know its a two edge sword and we have seen
disastrous and championships come from trading up.

This will not be a popular comment but if you feel strongly about a QB
and you have that opportunity you make that swap.

Let the guys who get paid to shop for the groceries make the decision. Goff or Lynch I don't care I just know we need a QB of the future Yesterday. Give me a RB in the second and I'll be happy...

If the store is out of stock of QB's of the future do you get a generic QB with your first pick just in case? Are we really that good at coaching QB's up, our history looks dubious. If the powers that be see something in these top five I will back them up but to take a QB because the fans want one is Jerry 101.
