Then look for expansion teams [in Canada & Europe] by 2018. Still no team in Los Angeles though.

This is what parity has done. Teams falling just short of the playoffs [as we know this all too well], no problem, we can make the fans happy, add playoff teams.
6-10 SB winner, here we come......

What is Goddell's motivation? The playoffs should be PRESTIGIOUS. Why lessen the standard it takes to reach them?

Also, what's the deal with the London team? They should NOT have a team that uses AMERICAN -BORN AND BRED players. Let them only compete using Brits and Euros

Didn't Jerry talk about this not that long ago? That he was in favor of expanding the playoffs. I think that is watering down the sport. 12 is perfect. 4 division winners and 2 wild cards. You are just diluting the regular season by adding more teams. Like the NBA regular season is a joke.

It will not surprise me at all if it comes to fruition. An expanded playoff field is inline with other parity-oriented, 21st century engineered moves the league has made since the early nineties (i.e. salary cap, rules overly favoring the offense, etc.).

Why do we continually let the owners off the hook? Goodell cannot ever do squat without their approval outside the parameters of the CBA, conduct policy, etc.

What's it going to be then, eh?

In Goodell's mind, he does not care about prestige, tradition etc.

It is about money under the guise of "excitement".

Fair enough point. They are the ones who pay him his $44 million salary a year.

We are getting close to where a pro alternative league will start gaining steam, you know, one where they still play football and stuff.

If the commissioner of a sport pushes for something hard enough, it usually will happen at some point or another. They scratch his back, he scratches theirs type thing. But something like this can not even have legs without Goodell. The owners just can't come up with this idea and it passes. He has to get the ball rolling.

And I'm pretty sure many owners will love this. Extra few games for tv money and all that extra revenue. Odds increase to make the playoffs now.

But now, you almost have as many wild card spots as division winners make the playoffs. 4 vs 3. That is not right. The value of winning the division is decreased that much more.

Like the XFL? There is no way right now an alternative league can survive against the NFL. The NFL is more than just the game. It's a brand and a way of life for many. The teams, the marketing, etc can not be matched. Sure you got the canadian league but how many really watch that?

That is not so, owner normally bring this to the commissioner not the other way around. As for onwers approving it Mara is opposed to it as are others but are willing to listen to those who are in favor.

Awful idea. The playoffs should be a big deal. It should be a big accomplishment to make it in. Why don't they just expand he playoffs to 32 teams?
