If the commissioner of a sport pushes for something hard enough, it usually will happen at some point or another. They scratch his back, he scratches theirs type thing. But something like this can not even have legs without Goodell. The owners just can't come up with this idea and it passes. He has to get the ball rolling.

And I'm pretty sure many owners will love this. Extra few games for tv money and all that extra revenue. Odds increase to make the playoffs now.

But now, you almost have as many wild card spots as division winners make the playoffs. 4 vs 3. That is not right. The value of winning the division is decreased that much more.

Exactly. If Goodell didn't think it up, someone else would have.

I've never understood it. It's like Goodell's some sort of feindishly clever demonic entity for some.

But Goodell does not get a vote in the matter it would take 24 owners to agree to expand post season.

Your welcome. It is the facts. Owners are the ones who do these things the commissioner enforces. Same with rule changes, they have a committee made up of owners and in the past coaches who are members of this group who propose rule changes not Goodell. His job is to enforce and work between players union and owners not dictate to the owners.

I don't like it, but let's not go overboard and say it ruins or dilutes the playoffs because the 4 team divisions already do that. If you look back at most seasons, you will see that the extra team added is usually better than some 8-8 division winner that backed in to the playoffs. The divisions are really the problem they need to fix (don't ask me how).

you are full of it. This has been talked about in owners meetings for several years. This is all owner driven. Have to laugh at those that are too dense to figure out that Goodell does not wipe his rear end without talking to the owners first.

That is not so, owner normally bring this to the commissioner not the other way around. As for onwers approving it Mara is opposed to it as are others but are willing to listen to those who are in favor.

Goodell is on a mission to change this game and not for the better. 18 games, 14 playoff teams, expansion to Europe and Canada, etc.

If it does not happen it is because they did not have 24 owners who wanted it. Owners hire the commissioner and the commissioner has 0 vote, it is 32 owners needing 24 votes to pass any proposal.

These issues are brought up at the owners meeting. 32 multi-millionaires and billionaires are not lead around by their nose they are the ones who vote for any and all changes period.

3 divisional winner would have the week off 3 non divisonal winners and division winner with worst record would be playing.

It could be done that way as well. It can be done no problem with that. Question remains should it be done and for me I say NO

There's only one, and he's got more pull than any of the other 31 owners. His team has also barely missed out on the playoffs a lot recently because he does a very poor job of building his teams.

No doubt Jerry is in favor his reason is because of the extra revenue it would bring in and that likely is true, however there are many other owners who have equal power since they all get 1 vote who thinks it is not a good idea. If Jerry was all powerful we would not have been hit with a 5 million penalty the last 2 years. Jerry is a vocal owner but in terms of power he has as many votes as the other owners.

This is a stupid idea, sure it increases teams chances to make the playoffs but it cheapens the playoffs at the same time. Now if there planning to add more teams this will work out other wise it just cheapens the playoffs
