This isn't breaking news. They made their bed when they elected to make a below average QB the highest paid player ever.

They've done this for years. It's not a result of one contract.

Every other team in the league with a high-priced QB manages to sign other players. The Joneses choose not to, and then blame the players for their own incompetence.

They’ve always had money but conveniently their philosophy is to invest the least amount in the team. Hopefully ticket sales will further take a dive. Sorry to you season ticket holders! Micah will be the next reason they can’t make any moves. This team has needs at probably every position other than TE and kicker, though we still prob reach on another TE.

However you want to word it, it's still no excuse for that horrible contract, strapping is to an aging, immobile, mediocre QB who is still trying to figure out footwork in his soon to be 10th season.
Oh, is that what you’re complaining about, forget it it’s done

$20M is gone after you do the basic stuff like sign a backup QB, punter, long snapper and a couple smaller raises guys like Turpin. Opening money up is just going to allow you to keep a few guys like Hoffman, Dowdle, or OSA. They might have some cap flex to bring in a mid tier FA if they really want to, but thats about it. I really don't get the optimism about the 2025 cap.

In theory they could do a true all in year and worry about cap issues in 2026/2027/2028 but I'm not seeing a team that is close enough to have a true all in year with. Last offseason was the better bet to go that route IMO.
They have options in both CD and Dak's contract to lower their current salaries and push that money into void years. That alone could save $60m. There's a good chance Parsons gets extended and lowers his cap hit for the year by around $5-$10m. Add in the $20m they move forward and you've got close to $100m in cap space. Now, Dak is the big piece there. Do they want to do that with his contract after seeing how he played this year and how we played after he was out? My hope is they don't and they look for ways to move on from him before his contract is up. But I was hoping they would move on from him before they resigned him.

And in theory they could go that route. Personally I think its smarter to eat a portion of these contracts, especially Daks this coming year to free up space for the future, but they may not agree. I just dont think this team is positioned to add a few FAs that puts them into super bowl contender territory.

The other thing you have to look at is even if they free up that $100M they have starters leaving for free agency at WR, G, DE, MLB, P, Slot CB, DT, RB in addition to secondary guys like Turpin, Sieg, Whoever your backup QB is, and cut candidates in players like Steele to help open up that $100M. $100M is still not going to leave you with a ton of money to truly upgrade the roster this year, and it will mostly be just backfilling the guys who are leaving. By the time they retain a few of their current guys set for FA they may realistically have money to go get one bigger name, likely on a short deal, maybe a Stephon Diggs to replace Cooks? Its an upgrade for sure, but I don't view it as a move that significantly moves the needle based on the current state of the team.

Expect more of the same as long as Jerry and Stephen are running this franchise.

You can't forget how old Jerry is. He doesn't have the time to sit around and rebuild this team and look to 2030. He's going to do everything he can to win in the very near future.

As much as I want to believe that too, last offseason suggests that Jerry doesn't prioritize winning as much. Part of me would love to be wrong and see them actually have an all in year, but I also just dont see how this team is in position for that type of run. This past offseason felt like we were much closer to having a chance with a legitimate all in type of run. Especially with the loss of Overshown I struggle to think this team is all that close.

This is year 1 of being a bad football team. Get ready. It will last several years.
I agree. They seem to think they are still headed in the right direction…or at least try to sell it that way.

I mean, what would have been wrong with taking a better shot over the last few years when the roster was better and just accept a short rebuilding period thereafter?

They just don’t get that part of things. Not sure if it’s about delusion, or arrogance in thinking they can beat the system which is set up to penalize regular season success.
