I think an extension should be earned, and not given.

I'll ask you, how many coordinators could have succeeded given the offensive talent that Linehan had to work with? How truly difficult was his job? How many offenses around the league had the sheer talent that Dallas did?

I don't know there has to be some coaching talent if a 4th round rookie QB that has never played under center makes the pro bowl and has one of the best rookie seasons in history.

I've gave up on our coaches ever being real difference makers.

With that said I thought they did a fine job this past season.

Im starting to think that Bill Belichick is the only coach in this league that has a clue what he is doing,
It's a process

These guys have both had success in Dallas. A 12-4 and 13-3 season(s) in 2/3 years. Yeah 4-12 is definitely a blemish but really, we all know the real story behind that one (lack of QB play). I say they deserve it. Plus I think continuity is great for a team. Hell, even though the defense ultimately let us down, they did play pretty well for a group of nobodies. Have to give Marinelli some credit for that.

Hes been alot better than Ryan and the other old dude we had sleeping in the booth.

Defense has been crap for a long time. After ware we have had not one good consistent pass rusher. We've sprinkled hardy, gregory, dlaw in there with minimal results. Defense needs a better DL.

Yea, he is better than fat Ryan and Monty "I keep dozing off in the booth" Kiffen.

I just am not that impressed with his overall body of work here, I know he has not had the best talent in the league to work with but it just seems this defense isn't getting any better under him.

I am glad we are extending them... Keeping Linehan is good for Dak's development. Marinelli is a good coach that gets his guys to play team football... Continuity is a good thing when you've found some success.

These coaches have gelled and we have a 2 year window to win a championship before Dak and Zeke are in their contract years. Go after it all and keep the crew together until the window closes.

the only thing I'd like to say is we have a wider window then two years I see a window in the ten year area.As long as you have a franchise QB with some good or better pieces your a playa

Linehan - sure why not, overall he gets his offensive team to produce, players execute, & at times Linehan will adjust if needed.

Marinelli - no, his defenses are always reacting rather than dictating their will upon the opposing team's offense, & Marinell's stubbornness and his lack of defensive innovation/adjustments illustrates that his is not putting the players in a position to succeed as play-makers/game-changers in crucial situations.

You're misremembering how truly bad the defense was before he got here then, because it was awful. We were better on defense than we had any right to expect to be going into the season, and still weren't good enough. We need more talented players on that side of the ball, period. We've neglected it for years now.

I'll ask again, what offensive coordinator had more overall talent to work with?

Does that "credit" include a 'get-out-of-jail-free' card for life? I know it's great to automatically assume that the guys who couldn't get out of their own way at QB in 2015 suddenly get all credit for Dak Prescott, but a good deal of credit goes to the player himself.

But I'm fine with giving Linehan credit for "wanting Prescott", but I also blame him for getting pass-happy and getting away from Elliott and the running game. It's possible to do both.

Based on comment heading into the season with Dak at QB no one was giving the Cowboys a chance in hell to win. As for pass happy? they fell behind in the game after a slow start they were forced into a situation where they had to air it out a lot more and in doing so put themselves back into the game when it was beginning to look like GB was going to blow us out. No way Dallas was going to stay in a heavy run offense at that stage. Play calling was poor? Give me a break

Once you have to pay your franchise QB-- it gets a lot harder to surround him with talent. Just look at Seattle after they had to pay Wilson-- they are still good, but the cupboard is definitely not as stocked because their is less money to go around.

We get Dak and Zeke on the cheap for the next 2 years, which lets us go out and pay for supplemental pieces to make a run.

With Dak at QB-- we may be competitive for the next 10 years, but we need to maximize our chances the next 2 years before the band breaks up.

You "give me a break". You and everyone else trying to make excuses want to point to when "they fell behind" when the fact is that anyone who wants to look at the play by play for the game can see for themselves that he was pass happy from the start of the game. The excuse doesn't hold up.

Good point Idgit..................I agree 100% that our defensive players overall just suck.

That is why this draft better be defensive heavy.

After his late-season playcalling, I wouldn't be giving Linehan an extension.

Let go of Linehan at this point the Offense is on cruise control...tho Linehan derailed a lot of runs by refusing to run when he should passed and passed when he should of ran...bonehead plays if you ask me.. let him go keep marinelli.
