Ezekiel Elliott headed for suspension? Cowboys don't think so

There has been speculation for weeks (months?) that Ezekiel Elliott could be facing a suspension from the NFL to begin the 2017 season.

ESPN's Dallas Cowboys reporter, Todd Archer, appeared on Mike & Mike Thursday morning, and was asked if the Cowboys are bracing themselves for a suspension of their star running back.

"It's funny because (Cowboys owner) Jerry (Jones) is as positive as he is about everything, but especially about this," Archer said. "He has told us a couple of times that there is just nothing involved with domestic violence here in this situation. We'll see if the league agrees with him. We're awaiting final word from them as they hear from law enforcement and judicial authorities before Roger Goodell comes out and makes a decision one way or the other as far as a suspension.

"But if you listen to Jerry and you listen to people with the team, they don't think that there will be anything coming down. And that might be a little surprising because of what Adam Schefter reported a few weeks ago that Elliott's camp was bracing for a short suspension.

At this point, I'd have to side with JJ in thinking there will be no suspension for Zeke. If they had anything of substance to support DV, it would have surfaced long ago and a swift penalty handed down. I suspect the league dragging this out is to create the perception of a thorough investigation and that DV is something the league does not tolerate.

The fact that the ruling is taking so long just leaves a bad taste in my mouth about this league...they are toying with Cowboy lovers and haters alike.....for ratings. These are bush league tactics for startups or organizations trying to generate a following.....the NFL should be above this kind of stuff

This could simply be Jones publicly putting Goodell on notice. Suspend him and we are going to fight you.

He's going to get 1-2 games ... just because Goodall and Mara say so

Why has everybody seemingly bought into the idea that there's anything whatsoever to suspend him over? Unless it's something that hasn't been reported yet, there are no grounds. One Schefter report, and that doesn't seem to matter.

I have no doubt that they WANT to suspend him over. However, the facts and evidence just don't support it, no matter how long they stare at it.

Long, fruitless, pointless investigations trying to prove a false narrative. Such are the days we live in.

Maybe they will surprise us and announce there is no suspension and no further investigations into anything.

Goodell better not suspend him or I'll have to take matters into my own hands ......

The media likes to release unpopular news late Fridays to draw the least amount of attention.
In that this might be considered going soft on a Domestic violence case, look for the "he has been cleared" by the league late tomorrow.
I dont see how they can do anything since he has been legally cleared.

Conduct unbecoming gives Goodell wide latitude, at least the NFL office thinks so.

It definitely does:

"It is not enough to simply avoid being found guilty of a crime. Instead, as an employee of the NFL or a member club, you are held to a higher standard and expected to conduct yourself in a way that promotes the values on which the league is based, and is lawful.

"Persons who fail to live up to this standard are guilty of conduct detrimental and subject to discipline, even where the conduct does not result in the conviction of a crime."

The NFL has values? When did that start?

Not the day before Jerry's induction. I don't see that.

Probably Monday or Tuesday next week, I'm guessing.

Drawing it out for so long is, in itself, a punishment for the player. Hanging this over his head, letting the media speculate and rehashing the whole thing over and over again certainly isn't doing the player any favors,,,
