The first two years of the deal are fully guaranteed, totaling $28 million at signing. The base salaries in 2021 and 2022 become fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the league years in 2020 and 2021.

That makes more sense, then. Much more.

Correcting the previous post accordingly...............

Boiling it all down to guaranteed money/years:

- Gurley has been guaranteed to have $45m in his pocket for 2018-2020, 3 years... $15m/yr... after that, he has to earn everything else he gets (~$13m avg over 3 years) or be cut.

- Bell is guaranteed to have $27m in his pocket for 2019-2020, 2 years... $13.5m/yr... after that, he has to earn everything else he gets (~$14.25m avg over 2 years) or be cut.

- Zeke has been guaranteed to have $28m in his pocket for 2019-2020, 2 years... $14m/yr... and after that he has to earn everything else he gets (~12.5m avg over 6 years) or be cut... and importantly, $32m of it all, he'll not see unless he's considered worth it in 2025 and 2026.

So, his deal slightly exceeds Bell's in terms of guaranteed commitment, but not Gurley's.

And though it exceeds both Gurley's and Bell's in terms of total possible post-guarantee commitment, his annual average actually falls short of both.

Hard to imagine Zeke will be here wearing a star in 2025, though, who knows, maybe the salary cap grows enough over time and he proves to be so incredibly durable so as to allow for it.

I take back my earlier sarcasm, as-if Joneses were just blowing smoke about refusing to set the market.

To the contrary, this has allowed Zeke to brag he's the best paid RB, but looking under the hood, his guaranteed money is more like Bell's than it is Gurley's, and after the upfront guarantees are done, comparatively, Zeke is earning less per season overall.

I like it from the team's perspective.

And indeed as anticipated from here, Gurley's contract was evidently regarded in these negotiations as an outlier. As it should have been, and as the Joneses hinted it was.

Not terrible. I’m not convinced he lasts 5 seasons as a pro bowl caliber back unless they decrease his workload. He’s already looked slower from year to year.

Well, $12.5MM will not be pro-bowl caliber money in a few years

Yeah hard to see how we haven't made out on this deal.

A breakdown of Ezekiel Elliott’s eight-year, $102.9 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys:

Signing bonus - $7.5 million

2019 base salary - $752,137
2020 base salary - $6.8 million ($13 million option bonus)
2021 base salary - $9.6 million
2022 base salary - $12.4 million
2023 base salary - $10.9 million
2024 base salary - $10 million
2025 base salary - $15.4 million
2026 base salary - $16.6 million

Note: The first two years of the deal are fully guaranteed, totaling $28 million at signing. The base salaries in 2021 and 2022 become fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the league years in 2020 and 2021.

30 of the 50 million is guaranteed base salary, that can be voided by a suspension. Seems legit.

Dude it doesn’t matter how much Zeke makes. He will not honor his contract, it’s not worth the paper it’s written on. In a few years if Zeke is still in the league and not suspended, he will hold out again. He is constant drama and a distraction.
History doesn't support the notion that just because a player holds out once he is dead certain to do it again. That's especially true once a player gets a big payday. This contract guarantees Zeke's financial future, so going forward he might be a little more willing to compromise.

Yeah hard to see how we haven't made out on this deal.

For Zeke, this was all about not becoming this Cowboy era's DeMarco Murray.

He and his agent recognized that if he didn't do what was necessary to vault ahead of the QB and the WR on the priority list, he could very well get left behind... only scraps of pie left.

Good for them.

And, I think, good for us all.

These two look like prototypical candidates for a thread merge from here... :)

What until you see what Barkley is paid.
Oh I didnt think you were talking four years down the road.

We can agree that every contract will look undervalued at that point, rigjt?

Hell Zeke might not even be on the team at that point.

Yes, what some people miss is that he was to make "only" $9 mil next year, when you have that relatively small amount of money, in a probably short career position, you aren't that well financially set. With the $50 or $60 mil guaranteed, whichever, he's now not only comfortably set for life (if he has someone handle his money responsibly) but he's going to be set for life as a rich man.

Now that he's taken care of his future, he doesn't have to be so hard on negotiations...
