That's interesting because I was thinking that if Falcons did anything they would instruct Vick to take leave of absence to deflect some of the media circus during the TC and beyond. But I guess we'll just wait and see what action, if any, Falcons decided to take.

IMO this is their only option if he doesn't take a leave of absence. Apparently he has already indicated he won't, that he wants to play in 07. I think the fan reaction around the country would be too much for the other 52 players and coaches to deal with. It isn't fair to them.

That cap hit would be excruciating but that's sure as hell what I would do. You would completely distance yourself from Vick. That means you would:

(a) Get all PETA & other protesters off your back for the entire season and earn some good will with the animal rights activists (okay so that's not that big of a deal).

(b) Most importantly, you would be getting rid of the biggest locker room distraction in NFL History and letting your team just go out on the field and play football instead of being asked a million times a day about their indicted teammate. You could then really get the local fanbase on your side again (and I'm stealing this idea from an ATL writer I heard earlier today) by opening up the QB competition and let the heavy local favorite D.J. Shockley compete throughout the preseason with Harrington for the job.

At least that's what I would do.

Who's the ATL's back up?

Right now, Joey Harrington is the primary backup.

DJ Shockley is the 3rd stringer.

Chris Redman is also on the roster and has UofL ties...

Anyone know about Shockley's college career?

Does he have the potential to be the anti-Vick?

Yup, I agree.

If Blank asks Vick to take LOA and Vick refuses, then Vick is a fool for not taking up that offer and as you stated, if Vick does decline the LOA offer, that leaves Blank no choice but to release him because there is noway any team could weather the suffocating media circus and bad publicity, along with losing sponsorship and be effective.

This may sound funny but I think Falcons should take a hard look at Bledsoe considering who they have on their roster.

They are moving to a spread offense. They are going to want a mobile enough QB behind it.

That's not Bledsoe.

The offense was being designed around Vick's athletic ability.

That's not Bledsoe either.

No way would any NFL team sign Vick and if the Falcons cut Vick. No team is that dumb to take on the PR nightmare that he represents. While I'm not familiar with past problems in the NFL throughout its history, you gotta know Vick's indictment has got to rank at the top.

I listened to Spagnola's July 20 report and in discussing Vick he mentioned an attorney had studied Vick's indictment & stated essentially the Feds have him dead to rights. Spagnola also said (now this his opinion but have heard many others say same thing) that this is a Feds charge and not some rinky dink AG in Carolina (like Duke case). Also mentioned Vick's cousin not indicted so you gotta believe he's testifying against Vick. Also heard a defense attorney on either CNN, Fox or MSNBC that Feds have 2 witnesses against Vick. This attorney also said Feds might even have planted somebody in the house after they initially searched it for drugs cause they then become suspicious of other activites. Feds weren't going to allow their case to go down the drain or rely on a local yokey Prosecutor to do the job right. My take is the Feds really have the goods on Vick all this will become public in the trial and we all hear the info. If Feds case is really that good/solid, even if some jurior refuses to convict cause he prejudice in favor of Vick, etc., all country will have heard everything and Vick could become the outcase like OJ.

A die-hard falcon friend of mine was telling me Saturday that the Falcons are planning to trade Vick for draft picks and are going to sign Donte Culpepper. I have no idea where he gets this because I don't follow the falcons like that, but he seemed serious. I didn't believe him at the time because I didn't think the Falcons would ever consider getting rid of Vick but his rumor might actually have some wings.

I can see the signing Culpepper part, but as for trading Vick?

No way.

No other team would trade for the headache that the Falcons currently have.

Those are good points and agree that Bledsoe wouldn't fit the current offensive scheme. Shockey might fit the scheme but not sure if Harrington is mobile enough so perhaps teams needs to revise the offensive scheme?

Shockey hasn't played in real game, granted he has gotten some reps and Harrington is a new guy still learning so it wouldn't hurt to take a look at a strong armed QB like Bledsoe, albeit, immobile QB.

I think Petrino dealt with somewhat immobile QB at Louisville (IIRC) so perhaps he could expedite the transition?

I liked Mike Vick.....and hate to see this happen.

Could Ron Mexico do the time for him?

I can't see any team willing to trade for Vick with this indictment and all the circus surrounding the indictment.

I'd have laughed my rear end off if the Indictment named Ron Mexico instead of Ookie.
