If his client allows him to yes that part he does if you have an agent they have to approve it Now the client can tell you to ignore it and that you want him to sign off on it but in this case Parsons is trusting or he's brainwashed by his agent that he's getting screwed and that he needs to listen to him but the agent definitely if you have representation has to be involved in the final copy the signatures the witness. But just like in the real world if this was a criminal case and you didn't like the way your lawyer was handling things you fire him and get another one and you can wave your rights to having a lawyer but that would be stupid...

That has happened in sports this wouldn't be the first time a player had to get rid of an agent in order to get a deal done with another agent with a new agency you should have representation, i'm not against agents but in this case this agent and this owner in GM are not getting along and it's holding up this contract therefore how is that good for the client?

People in here trying to tell us that if Parsons changed to a different agent that he won't get as much money I think that's utterly ridiculous parsons is in a position where he's a superstar he's an elite athlete at his position and he will get maximum money if they can ever get to the table with the agent the GM and the player to come to an agreement..

Not true. A player has the right to negotiate a contract any time he wants. He doesnt need his agent’s permission. The agent works for him. Tom Brady signed his first big contract by going yo Pioli’s office and getting the deal done, then contacting his agent, Don Yee, who had been negotiating, to tell him the deal was done.

I agree with this, I believe the agent comes off as a scumbag and is all about himself....not like jerry isn't but there is something about this agent that doesn't feel right.

Sure. What does that have to do with a players right to negotiate the terms of the contract himself?

Micah did that. Came to a preliminary agreement with Jerry and the agent told him to renege. He has every right to do that as well. But Jerry didn’t break any rules by negotiating with Micah directly. The entire point of this thread is to say thar Jerry broke rules by negotiating directly with Micah. That is false.

If that were true, why hasnt Jerry been disciplined. Article 48, section 3 provides for discipline. Why hasnt he been disciplined?

It doesn't matter whether it's considered old school or antiquated, as long as it's the first part of the process and the agents involved at the end to approve and witness the actual contract to make sure his clients not getting screwed, that's all that needs to be done for it to follow the CBA rule...

Jerry's been doing this since 1989, and I think he knows better than anybody in here and whether it's right or wrong according to the CBA, in this instance it's just the 2 egos of this agent ,not all agents ,Jerry deals with agents he's been dealing with them since 1989, but this particular agent and him don't get along....

It's Not against the rules to negotiate a contract in principle whether it's verbal or you just sit around having lunch having a general discussion about the expectations of each party and come up with some kind of structure/outline/general terms and then when you get close you bring it to the agent and they can make changes and pass it back and forth until there's a verbal agreement there whether it's on the phone or on an email, and then you set up an appointment to sit down and everybody sign everything shake hands and do all the formal stuff...

Having informal conversations with your employees about contract is not illegal it's not against the CBA You can try to conclude that from bobs posting of it but Most of us see it the way I'm describing, it is not against the rules to have these type of conversations with your employees with the players as long as you don't force them to drop their representation in order to get paid, like blackmail strong arming that's not what Jerry's doing.... Other agents for other players recently like Prescott got everything and more and and really gave it to Jerry and Jerry paid them I don't remember any of them Accusing Jerry of doing things the wrong way.. It's because he does it an old way doesn't make it the wrong way and these players with agencies and agents have all got Jerry to sit down and finalize contracts....

Jerry's more upset at the agent not the player because he felt like they had a fair deal at least discussed verbally and the agent apparently and allegedly didn't like that that that happened, so he told him don't bother even sending it because I'll send you what I feel needs to be the terms... This is the giant ego trip by both sides They're both equally wrong in my opinion and they've made this more messy than they had to be...

Yes, if a player chose to bypass the agent but that's not what's happened here parsons has told Jerry he no longer wanted to talk to him in person without the agent involved, so at that moment they can no longer do it. Parsons would have to absolutely drop his representation in order to bypass his agent.... I already agreed he doesn't need an agent, but he does have an agent, and he's already told Jerry that he no longer wants to have informal discussions about the contract going forward therefore now that has to be the process from here on out UNLESS Parsons simply fired David and got a new agent or represented himself I wouldn't do that I would get a new agent one that they know Jerry has dealt with in the past like Prescott's agent..

No one is arguing this. The OP said that all negotiations must go through an agent. Thats not true. Jerry didnt break any rules as the OP states.

I have no problem with Jerry talking to players, but Jerry stated he "had a deal with Micah" but that's not how it works.

He can negotiate the generalities with Micah if Micah allows it, but in the end, the deal has to get negotiated in detail with his agent.

Jerry saying, "We had a deal" is disingenuous at best and an outright lie at worst.

A Lot being said that no one here and nobody on the outside can really confirm, we're all making assumptions, but I know what he meant they did have a deal in principle ,which would have had to been approved by the agent, the agent rejected having it sent because he got upset because he felt Jerry was bypassing him ,which he really wasn't, So now their egos are clashing that's the only thing we know is truth is Jerry doesn't like David, David doesn't like Jerry and Parsons is caught in the middle...

The outline of a deal ,the outline of terms ,contract done in principle, if it's verbal it is having a deal, he didn't say he had a done deal he didn't say he had a deal set in concrete... Jerry simply felt like they had the majority or how he would probably say it the meat of the deal already done and it wouldn't have been difficult for the agent to sit down and hash out the finer points and then get it signed but then the agent rejects even wanting to see it whatever you believe. here we are...

All I care about is football and I want the Dallas Cowboys to have Parsons playing game one against the Eagles So that's all I care about right now the money to contracts this stuff is giving me tired head...

this is tiring everybody out and it would be nice if it got resolved soon...

It gives the players’ union a degree of control over player compensation contracts. They don’t have to even suggest discipline for anyone. They remain fully in control of Micah’s and every other NFL player’s contract.

If they don’t agree with what Micah and Jerry have done in deference to a contract extension they can say “no deal”. And so can the NFL. If Goodell wants to weigh in, he can. I doubt he considers one owner’s contract impasse with one player as an issue that can hurt the popularity of the league.

In simple terms, the NFL and NFLPA are not concerned with Jerry’s and Micah’s relationship over a contract extension or otherwise.

It's all very well Jerry saying he has the player under contract for 3 seasons, but he wouldn't have the same player, just a very unhappy one.

I don't think many people understand that this has always been Jerry's strategy with star players that didn't sign early.

There have been countless stories in the past where the player wanted to be in Dallas bad, Jerry talked directly to the players, dangled an extra benefit they wanted to nudge them and then the players went back to their agents and told them, "Do the deal!"

Agents know about this habit from Jerry just like the media does and fans do, so I would not be shocked at all to hear that every Cowboys player agent warns them pre-emptively about that tactic.

Most players are more business-centric these days and are told in countless meetings by advisers and NFLPA speakers starting the moment they are drafted to let their agents handle everything.

Add to that the fact that a lot more players in college are getting agents for NIL which means they are getting a lot more information and instructions before they ever enter the NFL than they did in the past.

In other words, the old school backroom handshake deals that old people used to make are an antiquated way of thinking and negotiating these days.

No, it's not, in my opinion he's sending subliminal messages to Parsons that he's important to the team and at the same time he's not getting traded and the Cowboys plan on holding on to him for a long time, he's basically telling Parsons he's appreciated but his deals not done because of his agent...

Will eventually get done if you can't read between the lines, I'm sorry but it tells me a lot it should tell you he's not getting traded...
