Fast Forward: Cowboys are not done at TE

The biggest problem is the overall board. Pickings could be slim in that 26-36 range in terms of quality players that make sense for us.

I wouldn't cry if they ended up taking Harrison, the OT from OU. Love me some OL.
I’d prefer Avila to plug-and-play at left guard but I’m not averse to offensive line at all. They have a gaping hole at left guard and have a big decision to make at center after this season.

I tend to agree that they need a LG option in these first three rounds for sure. I just worry they are going to stupidly bank on Tyron staying healthy at LT and then Tyler Smith is the LG.

I fully expect them to ‘ride out’ Tyron at Left Tackle for as long as his health holds up. Which won’t be long based on recent history.

But I’d prefer that to Jerry’s ridiculous talk if putting him at right tackle and Steele in reserve. Tyron Smith wasn’t good at right tackle. And the run game really dropped off as a result.

I’m zoning in on Darnell Washington as my pet cat and first pick if a trade down offer presents itself.

I think he checks off a lot if what our offense needs:

1. Want to improve the running game? Draft a great blocker.

2. Want to help the quarterback and passing game? Draft a 6’7” target who presents a matchup nightmare.

3. Want to allow Ferguson and Hendershot to focus on what they do best? Draft a TE who loves to do the oft-overlooked dirty work.

Me. i coveted a TE that plays fast ... that's not just a workout wonder ,,that is not just a physique Hercules-statue.
So far i am hearing more about Darnell's accolades as an in-line blocker than established impact receiver.
That's not a guy that impacts and changes the game in the passing game.

- You don't draft blockers and potential projects in the first round, you draft the " well- established, well polished " receiving nightmare match up guy with the first round pick at
No.26 overall. I'm not saying a total do not draft for Darnell Washington, ..

- I'm not for drafting a project TE that's far more blocker than receiving in the first round.

- I'm also disregarding these views that he'll be more OT than TE.
Like he's gonna eventually be bulked up from 270 to 310 to be a project LT. ala Jeremy Parnell .

I can respect that. I don’t expect everyone to see it the same way that I do.

Or Jason Peters?

I will be shocked if Dallas drafts a TE. They specifically drafted Ferguson last year to take over for Schultz this year. Schultz and Hendershot did everything the Cowboys coud have hoped for to make that a reality this year. So last years draft appears to have been a success in their idea at TE moving into 2023 and beyond.

So know this, why would they then possibly go after a TE in the draft? IMO, this is nothing more than more articles written about crap ideas to get us Cowboys craved fans to read more of their garbage.

Want proof of this?? How many articles have we had this off season saying we were going to get Henry, Cooke, Hopkins, and OBJ? and yet NONE of those are happening.... yet they still push that crap down our throats.

Is it possible? I guess, but I just dont see it.

you HOPE you get that polished guy in the first rd. When was Kelce drafted?

Kelcie was drafted in third round, while we drafted TE Gavin Escobar in 2nd round in the same draft class year.
who cares.... yu can pick out guys from our roster that we drafted in a later round and some other team drafted a bust above them. That is all over the draft, every year.

Me too and they had success doing it last year with Smith so....yeah but I'd like a Guard here if possible. Maybe Avila from TCU who has position flex from guard to center:

About the 4 current TE's on the roster. And 5 TE's that could be on their radar, and a 6th honorable mention prospect.

Top listed TE is Michael Mayer from ND, for the article top listed anyway. I believe he is the TE @CowboyRoy has been posting about.
Mentions Kincaid, then Washington and a few others.
Would take the Utah TE over the guy from ND everyday of the week!!! But we can also steal the TE from Iowa later on.

The Utah TE is a big WR for all intents and purposes.

So if what you want is a seam stretcher, he's the guy. If you want someone that can also enhance the run game with his blocking, you should likely look elsewhere.

It works both ways. From 2003 draft:

#24 Colts took Dallas Clark
#41 Texans took Bennie Joppru
#61 Eagles took L.J. Smith
#63 Raiders took Teyo Johnson
#69 Cowboys took Jason Witten

Love it. Had to turn off the Washington highlights because now I’m gonna be pissed if we don’t get him lol.

What’s the deal with him? Not as polished as Kincade or Mayer?
Doesn't have the stats in the passing game.

Well that proofs his point.

The other Georgia TE is projected as a top pick next year.

I wouldn’t pay much attention to stats in his case.

Physically he looks too good to be true. If Jerry was as infatuated with Kyle Pitts as he said, Washington has to at least have his eye.
