Love it. Had to turn off the Washington highlights because now I’m gonna be pissed if we don’t get him lol.

What’s the deal with him? Not as polished as Kincade or Mayer?
No. He played alongside Brock Bowers, who many believe will be a generational talent at the position. Washington was often tasked to do the dirty work in 12 personnel packages.
Entering his junior season - expect a number of college football pundits / media / followers - to tout Bowers as a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate.

About the 4 current TE's on the roster. And 5 TE's that could be on their radar, and a 6th honorable mention prospect.

Top listed TE is Michael Mayer from ND, for the article top listed anyway. I believe he is the TE @CowboyRoy has been posting about.
Mentions Kincaid, then Washington and a few others.
Mike is definitely not done looking for his TE, the very rare Kelce type, could be one in this draft.
If you are lucky enough to draft the right TE early in this draft you could have a solid weapon for a decade.

I want any of these

1. Michael Mayer
2. Darnell Washington
3. Tucker Kraft
4. Zack Kuntz
5. Lachlan Pitts
No Kincaid? Only one guy on your list is in sane ballpark as him and that’s Mayer.

Exactly how is TE a luxury after losing Schultz?

What if the highest rated guy on the Cowboys board is a TE and they can't make a trade?
We have 4 TE on the roster 2 of which skill set mirrors Shultz and 4 of them that block better

It’s not a need in my opinion especially when we have NEEDs at OL and DT. I’d argue RB is more pressing than TE. We could use a LB before TE

Just my opinion. I have no issue drafting 1 late but not early

What this graph is effectively stating is there is little difference between a first round tight end and a fourth round tight end. Where was Jason Witten drafted? Gronkowski? Ertz Kittle Kelce Goedert Andrews Schultz Waller? Amongst the best TE’s in football, none were first rounders.

You’re really just throwing away draft capital by taking one that high, nevermind the fact that it’s probably the least valuable position toward team success on offense or defense.

Yeah, I just don't see the value in using a first round pick on a TE.

Especially a raw guy like Washington who needs work in the passing game at this level. How happy will people be if our first round pick turns into a glorified 3rd OT?

It depends on what you want at TE.

If you want a glorified big WR like Kelce is, then you go with Kincaid.

If you want to take a flier on the highest ceiling guy but understand he has big bust potential, you take Washington.

If you want the safest choice with llikely the lowest bust potential but also likely the lowest ceiling of the bunch, you take Mayer.

And all signs point toward just that.

Most on his list are complete TEs that can be assets in the run and pass game (well eventually). I am guessing he's looking for a complete TE, especially given the increased focus on being more consistent running the ball.

Kincaid is basically a large WR. Sure, he might exploit those seams but you may actually have a worse blocker than Schultz.

Hope it works out if they take Washington but as Aerolith pointed out in an earlier post, it seems the learning curve for TEs to be really productive is a few years and Washington is pretty raw. While he's a high ceiling guy, it might be 3-4 years down the road that you finally see any fruits of your development labor.

I don't like a TE at 26 but if I am forced to take one, I need one that's gonna be able to start and contribute right away and that's likely Mayer if you want a complete TE or Kincaid if you just want a passing threat.

We already have the next man up w/ Fergie, Hendershot has looked very good, and one of the youngsters performed well. I think it was McKeon.

They both look capable. If you don't think so, then I guess it could be seen as a need.

I don't think he's a high ceiling guy. Lacks separation ability due to lack of speed.

Looks like strictly a blocker and maybe a red zone threat.
