Actually, I'm a big fan of Ruth Chris Steakhouses. Out of probably 30+ visits, I've only had one that wasn't up to par.

I've had far less success at Del Frisco's Double Eagle steakhouse.

It's been years and years since I have been there, but Bob's Steak and Chop House in Dallas was good too.

Since I bought a Sous Vide, I cook most of my own steaks at home. You can't cook a perfect steak over open flame, Sous Vide cooks them to perfection every time. Finally, the food is far cheaper, and not paying $25-$30 for a good glass of wine to go with it.

BOSS.
I am the opposite. I think Ruth Chris is the most overrated high end steak house ever. I think Del Frisco's is excellent.

I had a pretty good prime rib and lobster tail dinner at a restaurant called "U.S.S Chowder Pot III" last weekend in New Haven, CT. It didn't come off as a really nice restaurant, but it got rave reviews. It was quite good even if the ambiance wasn't quite what you expect from a great restaurant. I give it a thumbs up.

@Runwildboys ever been there?
That old saying "ya can't judge a book by the cover" was never more appropriate than when applied to restaurants. I've experienced both ends of that many times. And the cleanliness and shape of the kitchen is not indicated by how pretty it is out front.

Yep and Texas de Brazil is a close second. Those potato puffs at Fogo have crack in them.
Haven't been to Texas de Brazil yet, but felt like I was missing out big time until I went to Fogo. Mortons, Ruth Chris, etc. are good but the range of the steak choices beats them out; I'm a rib eye man myself but like the variety.

Same here and I got a little spoiled having all of those choices at one meal and liked calling out to the servers based on what they were carrying. "Hey, chicken boy, bring me some poultry". "Hey, sausage boy, my wife wants a sausage".

Shulas Steakhouse in Houston is pretty good as well. It is moderately priced, between Salt Grass and Mortons, with some nice apps......excluding alcohol of course.

You can get a 48oz porterhouse for $100, make it a surf n turf for $130 :flagwave:

My vote goes to Perry's. A bit on the pricey side, but if you want a great steak perfectly aged and grilled, they are hard to beat. Very good wine list as well.

I didn't realize Perry's ventured out to Colorado. I remember the first one opening right down the street from me on Bay Area Blvd outside Houston.

I trained their head server many years ago at a different restaurant, so we go there on occasion and eat like kings paying almost nothing but a big tip

We have a Perry's in Littleton, a south Denver suburb. I ran into Mark Schlereth, the former Broncos OL, recently at Perry's. Seemed like a really nice guy.

My wife really likes their double-cut, smoked pork chop. Can smell it now. :)

It was getting "Californicated" when we moved out there in 93 but we fell in love with it and that was the 3rd job opportunity I had been offered to move there so I figured we needed to go. Loved Peter Schotts and Milford's for seafood and Table Rock is still about as good craft beer as I've had. Our favorite places though were BB Strands and Ducks. But we had to leave room for a chorizo from a street vendor on Main after hitting the bars. Nothing like coming out to your car the next morning to be greeted by the smell of chorizo and onions. Boise downtown at that time was a kick in the pants with the high school and college kids cruising. I knew it couldn't stay the same but that was really cool.

But the coolest part was when we first went there looking for houses and our realtor picked us up at the airport. It was around noon and as we're driving through downtown and crossing over the river, I look over and there's this guy in a shirt and tie with his pant legs rolled up fly fishing for trout and I asked our guy if the realtors pay him to do that. It was something out of a Rockwell painting.

Yup, those are all definite Boise qualities!! It's been years since I have been to the downtown night scene but from what I understand it is still very vibrant.

Have you eaten at....
Nick and Sams?
Al Biernat's?
Three Forks?
Perry's?
Morton's
I have never been to any of the restaurants you mention.

Come on. You're telling me a steak at Longhorn in Jersey was better than the best in Texas?
Or did you mean the best chain restaurant steak and that you just haven't eaten at the better places in Texas.
That would be fair

Yes, I am telling you the steaks I had at the Longhorn in Jersey were the best I have EVER had from any restaurant. I was there for some training and ended up eating there four nights in a row and it was just as good every single time. I have never had a steak as good from a restaurant in Texas including Longhorn. I do not know why the ones in Jersey were so good but I suppose it was the chef.

Of course I should add that I am talking about restaurants. I have a friend who makes the best steak I have ever had and I am pretty good at cooking them myself.
