Not the Florida Ciavarella's!!!!!Mom's maiden name was Ciavarella. All of my mom's family was from Florida and Texas (that's where I got my Cowboys fandom). Also, yes, they still do have the Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed. I have never gone to one but I hear it's quite the deal for some people, who are into that kind of thing. The great outdoors are definitely in Boise's backyard. With so many people moving into the valley lately though, it's getting crowded in the mountains. I drove to McCall last 4th of July weekend and the traffic going up was insane.
We had a blast in McCall skiing after a couple of trips over to Sun Valley, totally different clientele. Went to that restaurant, I think it's the Pioneer Inn? where we had knocked out artichokes and pork chops so big they took my leftover bone to the Smithsonian and it's on display today. Tom Brokaw and his crew came in but it was all guys so he had to go to other tables to fondle breasts. Went hiking in the Sawtooth's on July 4th and had a snowball fight close to the summit.
The thing I miss the most about that area is the weather. 4 distinct seasons that change when they're supposed to, usually, and the summers are great because of the low humidity and cool down evenings. I live about 40 minutes west of Austin and the summers are stupid hot, the insects are Jurassic and the allergies are plentiful, I think I am allergic to Texas. But, this is where family is and that is more necessary than creature comforts and when I lived in Idaho I was 25 years younger without herniated discs so I couldn't enjoy the great outdoors like I used to anyway. But, I feel lucky to have lived there and experienced that life, everyone should have that once in their lifetime.
