1st Presesason game CJ> Felix

Gimme a break, if JuJo - Mr. Roboto himself - had holes to run through like that last year he'd have had 1500 yards. It's not hard to get a lot of yards when you're pretty much able to run in a straight line to the endzone.

You sound like a Lions fan if Barry sanders ran behind the line Emmit Smith had......

That's the dumbest statement I've ever read considering I've always said you could put 5 hall of famers in front of Barry and he wouldn't have done any better cuz he rarely ever ran where the play was designed to go.

You telling me he DIDN'T have a gaping hole to run through on that play?

He took the handoff and ran in a straight line. His speed got him the TD, but I'm not impressed. ANY fast RB would have scored on that play.

He didn't have a gaping hole at first he may a slight cut back broke a tackle and then exploded through the hole. What are you guys looking at? Watch it in slow mo. You guys act as if he got the handoff and the sea open up. He clearly gets the hand off makes a slight cut, breaks a tackle and shoots through the hole.

Watching the video in super slo mo 2 defenders had a shot at CJ in the hole, the first guy just totally whiff on the tackle and the 2nd guy he just blew by him and the second guy was untouch. So all this gaping hole from the onset of the play isn't true at all.

I wouldn't say gaping hole considering the play was flowing to the right and he cut back to the left ran through an arm tackle. The DE who blew up where the play was supposed 2 go original made CJ change where he was going.

yes CJ had a nice 66 yd run for a TD......but what did he do the rest of the game?

5 carries for 11 yds.....that is what he did. 2.2 ypc aside from that one long run, that was handed to him by a very poor decision by rookie Chris Long.

I am not going to bash CJ, cause I wanted him over Felix. Of course I wanted Charles more than anyone.

I was a little disappointed with BJ a few times.....he had Felix open on the flat with lots opportunity for good YAC, but he forced passes to WRs.

Keeping in mind it's just one preseason game, here's the background and what happened.

The Rams and Titans practiced all week against each other w/ CJ running with the 1st unit while White rested. All week CJ was busting runs on them and the word is that the Rams coaches were clearly worried he would do it on Saturday.

On Saturday, he played only two offensive series and ran with the 1st unit vs the Rams firsts...they totally keyed on him and he even got an ill advised pitch right before getting drilled HARD in the backfield (lucky to not fumble). He caught swing pass and took 13 yards. Next series they loaded up again but he saw a nice crease, took one nice cut and was gone. That was it...the Titans then took him out of the game for the rest of the night.

Jeff Fisher is not one to blow smoke...he is a no bs type dude. He has been very impressed w/ CJ all of camp and says he is special talent--even saying he is tough and strong enough to be an every down back (I'm not sure about that myself). He's also done well with blitz pickup so far, but we'll see. He's up to 202 lbs suppossedly--which is still fairly small.

You conveniently left out his 2 catches for 29 yards.

Obviously you miss this post so I will do it again:

Lets see without those big plays:
Felix would have 5 carries 13 yds
Choice would have 6 carries 21 yds
CJ 5 carries for 11 don't see so bad no.

not even but since we're playing this game outside his 1 catch for 28 yards how were his other catches... so instead of trying to limit peoples play lats tally up the yards and stats and see who had a better game.....

Chris Johnson

6 rushes 77 yards 1 TD
1 catch 13 yards

Felix Jones

6 rushes 32 yards
2 catches 29 yards

I think its clear who had the best 1st game in the pre season.

First, San Diego is a better defense than the Rams, and some of San Diego's back-ups are probably better than some of the Rams starters on Defense. You need to consider that aspect of the equation. I saw Felix make Shawn Phillips grab for air last night. I saw the QB just flip Felix the ball when nothing was open, and Felix made a big play by using his explosive speed and cutting ability. He showed his ability to make people miss in tight space and pick up extra yards.

I looked at Chris Johson's TD again. He is a talented player who will help the Titans. He had a strong camp. However, it was a zone read play and the blocking was perfect. The linebackers were blocked, and one guy took a bad angle, and Johnson broke an arm tackle. He made a nice run, but he didn't have to make some great elaborate cut. Johnson pretty much had a straight-line run through the open lane to the endzone. It was a gaping hole opened up by great zone blocking.

Felix is an outstanding jump-cut runner, and he is very elusive, even in tight space. He explodes through the hole at top speed and can get extra yards by making great cuts. His power is underrated and his vision and instincts are outstanding. He showed his power on his tough five yard run where he moved the pile forward to get 5 tough yards, right up the gut. His speed, quickness, vision, instincts, and jump-cut ability is why players like Shawn Phillips and Zach Thomas have been caught reaching for air as Felix flies by. Furthermore, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Wisconsin know how good Felix Jones was at Arkansas. That isn't chump change competition. It is the best competition out there at the college level.

Again, C.C. Brocatto (the Titans own scout) had Felix rated number 2 overall at running back behind McFadden. Brocatto is one of the most respected scouts in the NFL. He has been scouting players for decades.

I'm not saying Chris Johnson can't cut or play RB in the NFL. However, some scouts did question his ability to make people miss, and they were concerned about his size when he lowered his head on tacklers in the NFL. Johnson had a red flag on his neck that some teams were concerned about. Can Johnson continue to lower his head in the NFL like he did in college and stay healthy? He isn't big enough to be a battering ram in the NFL. He is going to have to make some linebackers and safeties miss. He was labled as a straight-line guy by some teams that evaluated him.

Felix didn't have a TD, but he made three plays where you could see all his skill set and talent come into play. All the things I metioned above. What did we see out of Chris Johnson? Straight-line speed against a very suspect defense.

Amazing... he went untouched but you somehow think he broke a tackle.
