The other team negotiates a contract. It's been done multiple times like Yannick Ngakoue, Jadeveon Clowney, Frank Clark, Dee Ford & Jarvis Landry.
I already addressed this.
Read the thread.

I mean Shultz is a top 10 TE any way you slice it. From stats to media rankings it’s not even a discussion, he’s definitely not a middle of the pack TE.

That said he’s on a franchise tag so no one is going to trade for and then pay him. They’ll try their luck in FA. You’d have to be a top 3-4 guy to get a LT in a trade for a TE.
Stats wise he’s top 10….but we all know we’d take well over 10 tight ends over him.

Im a Schultz fan on a rookie deal. I don’t think he’s good enough of a game changer to warrant big money.

Lol nah that’s the thing brotha. There is not 10 TE’s I’d take over him and I don’t see many who think that either. Here are a few of the TE rankings. Granted he’s not top 5-6 but he’s definitely in the second tier of good not great TE’s (7-10):

Ye of little faith .. It's time to man-up, it's why they drafted Tyler Smith. We will see what he is made of..

Hey, ya know what... I hope that you're right, and Tyler Smith is immediately the greatest LT Dallas has known. Unfortunately, moving Tyler Smith out to LT, means that Biadasz and a journeyman guard will have to contend with the likes of Jordan Davis twice a year. It was much better to have Tyler Smith and Zach Martin flanking the center to help with all the DL upgrades in the NFC East.

On the other hand, it is more plausible to trade for a good LG, than for a quality LT. However it works out, we need some help on the left side, or Dak is going to blindsided too frequently, and the run game won't be a threat of any kind.

What's it going to be then, eh?

It is a common thing to think that the new talent is on par with established value like Schultz, and a bit optimistic, I'll admit that.

However, since Schultz clearly has proven his value, and our rookie TE's have been a pleasant surprise, shouldn't Dallas consider trading Schultz to get an offensive tackle??
You clearly have no idea how the business side of the NFL works.

And why not? You REALLY think Dallas is gonna pay Shultz next season?

I did not say he wasn't top 10 in production. He is. What I'm saying is skill-wise and upside wise?

Gesicki
Hockenson
Godert
Pitts
Waller
Andrews
Knox
Fant
Henry
Kittle
Ertz
Kelce
Evan Engram

Then there are guys with huge upsides:

Albert O
Pat F
Logan Thomas
Hayden Hurst
Uzomah
Cole Kmet

I just don't see it with Schultz. He seems to be the product of targets coming his way.

There's a lot of things going sideways with this thread.
Specifically that the premise can't happen so shut this shotgun down.
Hey, a faulty premise shouldn't get in the way of a bunch of stupid arguments!

Hey, I have no regrets starting this thread... It's been a good discussion with a lot of interesting possibilities.

I've learned that since Schultz was franchise tagged (I knew that), it limits his trade with the constraint that he signs a contract first.. not likely.

The Cowboys can run more TE sets, if the trade is not possible, to help the journeyman LT Dallas would have to play.

If Tyler Smith does kickout to the LT position, maybe a similar player plus draft picks trade (Kelvin Joseph?) could net a quality LG to battle the many DT's Dallas will face. Ideally, it would be great to have Biadasz flanked by Zach Martin and Tyler Smith, but oh well. Plus, getting/overpaying for an above average LG is better than trying to overpay for an LT.

I personally like the idea of keeping Schultz. Having two very good TEs makes the offense more versatile.

Two rookies are not going to make Schultz expendable.

The Cowboys have perhaps onewor two options at WR with actual game experience and you want to trade the only TE with actual game experience?

I mean I guess I see that, there are other more juiced TE’s out there. I think Dalton is victim of not looking flashy but he’s got a top 5 broken tackle rate and a top 5 YAC rate as well.

Doesn’t look pretty but those are individual stats not target stats. He’s not flashy but the dude has become a good TE. Those guys you mentioned do look more athletic for sure but we’ll see how many end up with more productive careers.

Actually, they make him expendable next year. I think Ferguson is Schultz in a different number. Hendershot has more speed than any TE the Cowboys have had in a long time. He could be a poor man's version of Kittle or Kelce.

Hendershot will shine.

We have three legitimate TEs on our roster. Hendershot may even have the highest ceiling of them all in terms of being a threat.

Ferguson will be a 3rd down workhorse.

Sort of. He and Hendershot were 4- year starters in college, so not the typical rookie of today.

And they play TE, where you can kind of see the development of a player early on, if it's there.

Schultz is a reliable security blanket for Dak. He is not an elite player, and I think he is expendable based off what his contract demands will be.

I thought they were tradable once they sign the tag?

Franchise Tag players cannot be traded unless they sign the Tag.
- Once they sign the Tag, they are tradable.

Contract
- July 15th is the deadline for a tagged player to sign a new contract.
- If they don't sign before July 15th, then they must either play under the tag or holdout the entire year.
- Even if they holdout, a team could Tag them again.

Khalil Mack was on a 5th year option, not Franchise Tag when the Raiders traded him to the Bears.
