Can we get a guarantee from all the opponents on the schedule they will play only third and fourth string players about to be cut at the end of training camps, so these two guys who have looked great against men who will soon be looking for jobs, can continue instead of regressing against better talent?

No, Dallas can't get that guarantee. However, they also can't get guaranteed that they'll find a quality LT that will be cut. What if a team with an LT who had been to 2 Pro-Bowls was willing to trade with Dallas for Schultz and Kelvin Joseph... Pretty high price, but Dallas has many promising players at TE and CB behind those 2 on the depth chart. Plus either Dallas or the other team gets a 5th round pick or something.

I checked. You cannot trade him until he's under contract.
Which means the Cowboys would have to sign him and then trade him and knowing league rules per the salary cap and trades... that makes things tricky.

Hey, thanks for researching... Good to know. Welp... this scenario is very unlikely to happen then. With so many promising DB's that Dallas is committed to training, how about trading Kelvin Joseph?? He's unproven, (or proven to be quiet in his first season) but has the pedigree of being a 2nd round pick...

hopefully, the off the field concerns would be overlooked.

I think we may use the 2/3 TE offense to help ease the loss of our start Left Tackle. And since we don't really have but 1 really good/established WR right now the 2/3 TE offense may be right up our alley lol. Even with Michael Gallup coming back we could still run the 2 TE offense.

That's actually a very good idea. I like it.

Let's pump the brakes a little, yes Ferguson looks like the real deal so far, but we haven't seen him play in a game that counts yet. I'm looking forward to seeing how Schultz responds to all this talk about Ferguson and Hendershot being just as good or even better than he is.. Something tells me that Schultz will be playing with a big chip on his shoulder, and that may turn out to be a good thing for himself and most importantly the Cowboys.

Not tradeable, but definitely not worth big money on a future contract and worth letting go if he's not reasonable.

You do not make that trade. It's pretty simple.

Pump the brakes??? I'm hoping that the DE facing our LT during week 1 pumps the brakes a little as he flies past whomever we're forced to deal with as our LT.

It is a common thing to think that the new talent is on par with established value like Schultz, and a bit optimistic, I'll admit that.

However, since Schultz clearly has proven his value, and our rookie TE's have been a pleasant surprise, shouldn't Dallas consider trading Schultz to get an offensive tackle??
I don’t think so
But I do like them for the future
The TE position is a huge part of this offense and with so much youth at WR I don’t think you can trade the one guy at the position who’s actually played an NFL game

I can see that point of view, for sure. Also, ( after reading some of the comments by Corso, Oz and others to my idea ) since Schultz has been franchise tagged, Dallas would have to sign him to a agreeable contract prior to trading him.... after tagging him and forcing him to their terms! Quite difficult.

Ye of little faith .. It's time to man-up, it's why they drafted Tyler Smith. We will see what he is made of..

He has to be under contract before he can be traded.
The other team negotiates a contract. It's been done multiple times like Yannick Ngakoue, Jadeveon Clowney, Frank Clark, Dee Ford & Jarvis Landry.

I wouldn’t say Shultz is tradable. Maybe in week 5 or 6 after we’ve seen the rookies do it in a real game and we have Gallup back. Buy it’d be jumping the gun to do it now of the back of some pre-season glimpses.

If we have any ambition for the season then we’d be holding on to Shultz. Trading him is not the way to solve our O-line problems IMO. I’ve got more faith in Tyler Smith at LT than one of the rookie TE’s as no.1 TE.

Though they both had a good preseason they're still an unknown commodity having never played a down in a NFL game that counts. Now if one of them goes on to have a strong season maybe it's a consideration next year if a long term deal can't be worked out and Schultz is on another franchise tag.
