Why do we need to replace Shultz? What is it with you people and the Shultz hate? Top WR's your going to paying close to 30 million. Top TE's get around 15 million. Wouldnt you rather have a top pass catching TE over having to pay a WR?
You know, Lamb could be looking to re-sign with Dallas at the end of this year, right? So you post this like they should value Shultz over Lamb.

IMO, the TE position is one of those positions you don't pay big money too. Just like the RB position. But opinions vary.

One of the more interesting parts of this is Schultz longshoted himself to where he is and that has to inspire Ferguson.

I think they could be a very effective TE tandem along with the RB's and Prescott likes to spread the ball around. Especially with Gallup out in the early going and Tolbert taking some more time to acclimate.

2023 NFL Draft (1st round): Cowboys select TE Michael Mayer

He has freakish ability to "break defender's ankles" as a route runner.
- His change of direction in route running is like the TE version of Amari Cooper.
Should we be ordering his gold jacket already?

I don't think we should pay Schultz, as much as I like him. Money can be and should be invested in other areas. If Ferguson is as good, the he is here for 5 years and we find his replacement over time.

If Schultz was elite. Then maybe
Agree 1000%.
If Fergy can give yo 90% of Shultz for 90% less salary you gotta go with Fergy.
Business decision!

Feguson looks and plays a lot like Schultz, sometime I have to do a double take watching him. they run and play very similarly and freakishly they are built similary, with both 6''5" and 240ish.

so eating a bit of crow, some were crowning him after the draft. I was more like lets wait and see. so far in preseason he looks good, so I understand the cowboys wanting to wait before committing to Schultz.

It’s still wait and see with Ferguson. Let’s see how he performs in the regular season against the best players. I do agree that he does resemble Schultz in his style of play. It’s going to be a lot more challenging during the regular season against the best players.

No need to pay Shultz big money next year. We have his replacement here already. Let Hendershot sit a year on the practice squad and there you go. Ferguson, Hendershot, and McKeon are our TE's next year.

If Dallas wants to be smart about the cap, this is what they'll do.

Good post, it's all true because even though Schultz is a NICE receiver, he doesn't block too well and what does this team wanna do this year? Pound the rock. Schultz is solid but nothing to break the bank over

Shultz is one of the better pass catching te’s in the nfl. His blocking is improving.

I just hope ferguson continues and takes this to regular season.

the two of them should help our 2TE sets, with Ferguson being a better blocker. it will give defenses another thing to have to prepare for, which is advantageous to us. 2 TE, 2WR and 1 RB sets are very difficult to defend, specially if your TEs can block a little and can catch. throw McKeon in on some 3 TE sets, move the TEs around a bit, even line them up on the outside or in the slot (if Moore is smart enough to do that) and you can create a lot of mismatches.

Still a wait and see with me on Ferguson, but if he is the blocker they said he could be, he should be in a lot of 12 personnel two TE sets.
Even more over the more experienced McKeon. That's how much they also think of his receiving skills.

What I like to see from Ferguson, is what we cannot get from Schultz, the ability to present matchup nightmare problems.
and one that can consistently hit the deep middle seams.
A TE that your average starting LBs individually just cannot cover him ,
Instead of safeties having to double help the WRs, teams have to isolate their best coverage safety vs him safeties

i still see 4 TEs on 53 roster.
1 Schultz
2 Ferguson
3 McKeon
4 Pendershott

Schulz is good but we need better at TE
Ferguson will be the same
We better not sign Schulz to a big time deal just because he’s Daks friend
We need an upgrade at TE
He’s had two pretty solid years in a row from a production stand point. Do you have any idea how much it would cost for an upgrade at the position? This is t Madden. Can’t have all pros at every position.

I want them to draft him for the name alone. You know how many Halloween masks will be in the stands? I know it's spelled differently, but it's close enough lol

Ferguson is why Schultz won't be here in 6 months.

I think I’m gonna like Ferg more than Shultz. Ferg seems like he might be a star with way more YAC abilities.
