Actually he was top 10 in TE RAC. And top 10 in breaking tackles.

It's more a perception than reality..

He is not elite. But he is good

because he had far more targets and receptions than most outside of the top 5. volume stats are not exactly inspiring. it’s also only been one season of that kind of production

I don’t feel like Ferguson is getting his due from the media. Having a steady backup TE was a huge concern coming into the season and dude keeps claiming it every practice and preseason game. I was more disappointed last night in Hendershot. They were talking dude up in the Cowboys pregame show and how he was the best vertical threat of the gang and could seal a spot if he showed it. So much for that, I think he had the most snaps too of all the TEs?
I like Ferguson a lot. But…he hasn’t played against first team NFL defenders in a real game yet. Big difference between PS game speed and RS game speed. I think he will be good but I always wait until the live bullets fly before deciding a guy is that good.

Why do we need to replace Shultz? What is it with you people and the Shultz hate? Top WR's your going to paying close to 30 million. Top TE's get around 15 million. Wouldnt you rather have a top pass catching TE over having to pay a WR?

If you ask me, I want two of them.

a great TE changes the offense and naked defense much tougher
Many of the best offenses have top TEs
There are only 4-5 great TE’s in football at any given time. A very hard position to find a dominant player at, 6’5 240 lb athletic freaks don’t grow on trees.

Shultz is a top 10 TE by every metric and every media ranking. Is he special enough for a big money deal? No. But I’ll take that level of production from my TE every year. If Ferguson matches that production as a starter then we are lucky.

Feguson looks and plays a lot like Schultz, sometime I have to do a double take watching him. they run and play very similarly and freakishly they are built similary, with both 6''5" and 240ish.

so eating a bit of crow, some were crowning him after the draft. I was more like lets wait and see. so far in preseason he looks good, so I understand the cowboys wanting to wait before committing to Schultz. lets see what we got before we do approach, which is one smart move they made this off seson. I just hope ferguson continues and takes this to regular season.

the two of them should help our 2TE sets, with Ferguson being a better blocker. it will give defenses another thing to have to prepare for, which is advantageous to us. 2 TE, 2WR and 1 RB sets are very difficult to defend, specially if your TEs can block a little and can catch. throw McKeon in on some 3 TE sets, move the TEs around a bit, even line them up on the outside or in the slot (if Moore is smart enough to do that) and you can create a lot of mismatches.
Dalton didn’t look good as a rookie. Plus his hands aren’t as good.

Get them both on the field. Run an offense like the patriots did with Gronk and Hernandez. Add Pollard along with Zeke. Force matchup problems. Instead of wasting these guys on the bench because are OC is to stupid to scheme it up. Like we wasted Pollard , Wilson , etc.

Larger question is :
Is Shultz that much better to tie up an additional 10 Million is salary cap space?
This will be looked at hard after the season once we have a full season to evaluate their performance's.

For 1 year yes. You don't want your best threat at TE being a rookie especially with questions at receiver. If we had last years receiving core then yes. Giving Dak a solid option who does what he's asked in the offense is worth it while Ferguson learns the offense 1 year.

Yep, let them both play this year and see what we got with Fergie.
If he is even close to shultz, roll with Fergie next year and use the cap savings to improve other areas of the team.

Yeah, you kind of don’t know for sure until you see it in the regular season. However, when a guy comes in and is solid in the practices, performs well in the preseason games, and just looks like he immediately belongs… those guys are almost always good pro’s.

I’m certainly not an NFL scout, and I can be wrong, but at this point, I’d be completely shocked if Ferguson didn’t perform well in real games as a rookie. He always came through in crunch time at Wisconsin, and has looked like a vet TE from the first practice. Guys like that almost always hit.

It’s not like he just had one big preseason game… he has shown it since he first stepped foot in Frisco, and every step along the way.

Just compare his rookie season so far from what we saw from Schultz in his rookie year… and I really like Dalton. I expect Rookie Ferguson to perform roughly on par with veteran Schultz. I think he’s going to be very good because of what he did in the Big 10, how he’s looked so far, and because he’s a driven individual and football is important to him.

That is just what I think and what I expect.

Am I right? I certainly hope so.

Yes.

Sometimes, it's just obvious.

You know it when you see it.

I want them to draft him for the name alone. You know how many Halloween masks will be in the stands? I know it's spelled differently, but it's close enough lol
We had a Michael Meyers here once. He didn't scare anyone.

No need to pay Shultz big money next year. We have his replacement here already. Let Hendershot sit a year on the practice squad and there you go. Ferguson, Hendershot, and McKeon are our TE's next year.

If Dallas wants to be smart about the cap, this is what they'll do.

I'm curious what you think this management would do with the savings of cutting or not signing Schultz?

I see posts like this all the time, yet what have Jethro and Little Anus done to instill confidence in you they can use that money to get a player of quality?

People whine about the money, yet they never come up with anything to suggest this franchise can build a winner, even if they had 138 million in cap space.

So thrill us with your suggestion that changes the course of this teams history by jettisoning Schultz for the cap.

And leave off the accolades for a player who broke a tackle in a preseason game, as if he is the next HOF at the TE position for Dallas.

:facepalm::laugh:
not one of our DTs would start for any of our division rivals
Yes it’s a need

In fairness our rivals have ridiculous talent at DT and it's not like that investment has brought them a lot of success. Also, it's kind of academic and doesn't really change your point, but I think one of our DT's would start at NT for the Giants ahead of Justin Ellis, he's a bit of a JAG IMO.
