Ferguson is already Schultz at his best as a pass catcher

But wouldn’t it be more fun to pay franchise tag money for the same production?

Ferguson's on a 65-705-7, 10.8 yards per catch pace in his 2nd year in the league and 1st as the starter.

The best year Schultz had in Dallas was his 4th year in the league and 2nd as the starter in 2021 when he put up 78-808-8, 10.4 yards per catch. The other years would fall short of what Ferguson is on pace for this year.

We're basically getting the same production already out of the TE position in a seamless transition from the veteran Schultz to the 1st year starter Ferguson.
There isn't any reason to try to run down Schultz. He was a good, but not spectacular TE for the Cowboys for 3 of the 5 seasons he played in Dallas. He bet on himself by not signing the long-term deal the Cowboys offered him, and he ended up losing that bet when the Cowboys were able to replace him with another 4th round pick - Ferguson. Now, Ferguson is playing good, but not spectacular, for Houston. Good luck to him, and thanks for the time he spent in Dallas. No need to tear the man down.

Just be thankful that Ferguson is playing well. It will be interesting to see how Schoonmaker, who is bigger and faster than Ferguson, will develop. But Dallas got the better end of the deal because they don't have to pay Ferguson the millions that Schultz would have gotten - yet. And there is still potential upside for Ferguson to become even better.

IDK about Schoon being faster. Doesn't show up on the field as that. Ferg is definitely more elusive, and can evade tackles better.

Ferguson is a dawg. Im going to say it now. He took some hellacious hits last night and had the testicular fortitude to leapfrog Quandre Diggs, fully knowing Clarke was ready to hit him. His upside may even surpass Witten. Now we just have to wait and see if all that upside is fulfilled.

He's certainly off to a good start. I like the attitude.

I’m shocked beyond belief. A positive post from Risen?! Someone call 911!

All things being equal, Ferg more physical. A trait that comes in handy at TE. Typical fundamentally sound UW product.
Fergie really working hard & making the most of his ops. Got the "Novacek" hurdle in last night. Next feat is a 30-yd. YAC with no helmet, à la Witten.

I remember when a lot of TEs were just converted O-lineman whose role was to block, and catch a short pass once in a while as an eligible receiver. Can't think of another position in football that's been reimagined so thoroughly over the decades. The Cowboys have always been at the forefront of that.

He's been great- a complete draft steal. I like his overall humility, but Ferguson brings a lot of attitude when challenged and won't be bullied.

I've said this team needs to go full heel to get over the hump. Just play ball and give no respect when none is offered. Ferguson gets it.

Kid's terrific.

We love to waste 2nd rounders. Ferguson showed plenty last year to where we didn’t need to waste a premium pick on a TE.
To top it off we panicked after there was a run on TE’s and reached for Schoonmaker.
