Cmon man, its not an open question. Both defenses are terrible this season. Edit: Chiefs offense is scary good none the less, but yeah those defenses are awful.

I think there's a lot of truth to that statement. Fortunately though, Alex Smith puts a lid on their offense.
Smith is playing exceptionally well.

The idea that he puts a "lid" on their offensive is just patently false.

He functions well within their scheme and plays within the confines of it.

This really is a hilarious statement. Especially coming from a fan of a team whose QB is doing the exact same thing.

I saw it in that Thursday opening night game against the Patriots. They were running all kinds of different and exotic formations, including wildcat stuff. I even think there was a play where the TE Kelce took the snap from center on a run play.

Belicheck and the Patriots never knew what hit 'em. And if you can do that to a coach like him? I think Marinelli's defense will look like dogs chasing cars out there on Sunday.

Elite pass rush? They are one of the worst teams in the league at getting pressure.
This is correct. They are playing a ton of nickel and dime and while they have good rushers at OLB like Houston, Dee Ford and Hali, they are not sending them.

They are more into different looks to confuse the QB. Pressure is more mental than physical.

Brad Childress is a big part of that. He went to colleges and brought back a lot of spread concept changes. This is not your father's Andy Reid offense.

Those spread changes work well with what Alex Smith was good at coming out of school that he learned under Urban Meyer.

No it is not. And Reid is no longer the pass happy guy he was in Philadelphia. Hasn't been since he gotthe job in KC. They're running a diverse, sophisticated, well-balanced attack that stresses every level of an opposing defense.

And currently, the only thing I think Dallas' defense is doing particularly well is rushing the passer.

Reid still prefers the pass, always will as a West Coast proponent when the chips are down. A short pass is the same as a run.

What is different now is that the number of options that exist. This offense is not going to just go pass crazy because they depend on options to move the football, run and pass.

On any one given play they can have four options for the QB to filter through prior to the snap. These are choices, based on reading the defense. It is up to the QB on the field to communicate which option.

One option could be a sweep to Tyreek Hill, a run by Hunt, a designed run to Smith or even an exotic like a shovel to Kelce.

That is one of the reasons I laugh when people think this is the Alex Smith from the 49ers. He has a lot of decisions to make and usually he makes good ones.

Certainly the best version of Alex Smith that I've seen.

I agree. This Alex Smith hate is kind of comical giving the incredible love Wentz and others are getting for being inferior to Smith. Maybe he is a late bloomer, but he is a full fledged rose now and a top six/seven qb in the league and top three currently.

The Chiefs are very good on offense because Kelcie is the best TE in the game, Hill is the fastest player in the league and Hunt is a top level runner. Their O-line is mediocre but the scheme and skill position talent make up for it. Smith is very similar to Dak - doesn't turn it over, can run here and there and is good enough to beat you by himself when he's on.

Defensively the Chiefs aren't good. Houston is a beast and Peters is good in coverage but I'm not sure either is completely healthy. Peters won't tackle anyone right now. Like worse than Mo Claiborne on his worst day.

You can run on KC with even a decent attack and it wouldn't surprise me if the boys go for 200 yards on the ground if Linehan doesn't try to outsmart everyone.

Likely to be a shootout but Dallas actually matches up pretty well in this one.

I think last season's stats have been proven to not be a concern for this year. Both Pats and Texans are bottom third in scoring defense and the Pats are dead last in yards per game. Seattle just steamrolled the Texans. Not saying the Chiefs aren't good, but they are not all world.

KC's defense is bottom tier as far as yards per game goes. Dallas just needs to ensure they don't turn the ball over and that they score touchdowns instead of field goals and this game is winnable.

They should be down on their defense.

They are giving up a lot of yardage.

And why is that? Well Bob Sutton has gone super conservative and is playing man coverage behind a very straight forward 3 or 4 man rush. Sometimes two man rush and flooding the field with DBs.

Very little to no blitzing.

Sound familiar?

Actually we've blitzed a fair bit the past two weeks. I won't be surprised if we do again.

Yes...I noted in my OP that -- most suprisingly to all parties -- Hou and NE D's haven't been the same.

Still...the KC offense has the most explosive collection of playmakers the league has seen in awhile.

Perhaps their line can be exploited sufficiently. We've got to stop their short passing game from piling up YAC.

That would not be very smart considering what the Chiefs do.

Teams that have beaten or limited their offense have used cover 3 and have rarely blitzed. The Chargers, for example, blitzed four times the entire game, but got home on half of them. The Raiders sent five just once.

Just keep in mind what is defined as a blitz. That is sending more than four.

There are just so many moving parts that blitzing is just begging for a quick hit and an assignment error for a TD.

Seattle is no juggernaut offensively and they put up a million yards on the Texans defense this week so......

If you really think that, then we must be watching different teams.

It's likely you'll eat those words before they leave AT&T Stadium.

There is no reason we can't compete and win this game

Team needs to show up ready to play
Team has to play mistake free football
We need to stick with the run game
Dak will have to take some chances

A Garrett coached team has no shot at doing these unfortunately

Fingers crossed
