read more than a headline.

funny, because i wanted to have a grown up conversation about the situation but the moral police had to derail the thread. but hey, if it makes you feel like a better man to continue to try to belittle someone on the internetz, feel free to take a few more shots at my intelligence.

All of these sites that are getting in trouble are there because they failed to monitor their own content. Youtube tries to monitor their content but some stuff will slip through the cracks and that is understandable. These download sites were making money from the sharing of stolen material. I think this crack down is better than SOPA because it takes away the easy sources of pirating. There will still be ways to pirate if you really want to do it but the average person will rethink pirating.

I used to pirate back when I didn't know any better. Now I stream from IHeartRadio and have a small library for when I'm running. I use Netflix and GameFly so I don't have to worry about buying a bad title.

"acting in good faith" used to be how laws were decided. it was never black or white.

but the extreme to one side puts up a fight, the other extreme chimes in.

ce la vie.

my question is, will there ever be a way to stop it? not being antagonistic, just curious if you think its feasible to make a significant impact on the amount of content available.

I don't think it will stop, but the recent actions will derail a good bit of thieves and posters, at least for a little while, until a new, harder to crack system for pirating is developed.

Found this interesting:

Anonyupload to replace MegaUpload

The loose-knit hacking group Anonymous is attempting to replace the fire-sharing website Megaupload, following the latter's demise at the hands of the FBI.

Servers are being set up in Russia, according to the new website's welcome page, to provide an alternative file-sharing service called Anonyupload.

Personally, I think these guys need to cool it.

YouTube makes money as well.

As do users who post copyrighted material and who are YouTube partners.

Those ads aren't up there as a charity move by Google.

You aren't paying attention to the conversation. YouTube is acting in good faith by trying to monitor their content and protect IP. If the upload sites had done the same this rash of busts and shutdowns would not be happening.

I think the question to ask is where does lending/borrowing stop and stealing begin...

If I buy a movie and I lend it to you to watch are you stealing?

If we did it over the internet is it stealing or just using the technology available?

If you sent the digital copy back to me after you have seen the movie you would be returning my property though it is silly to do it as I would have the original someplace so you should delete as soon as you get the time but your computer caught wind of it and made a backup of the file and it would be sitting on your computer and mine at the same time which makes it illegal or does it?

The question than becomes am I allowed to lend my property? "excuse me do you have a cup of sugar I can borrow?"

or do we say no it is yours but you can't do with it what you want.

This really gets into areas way above just simple this or that.

I really liked Ice's solution the media would have to make it cheap enough to be attractive so that the people would simply rather not use piracy

Is YouTube a form of piracy?

I mean you can go on there and search for literally any song and start listening to it for free.

:laugh2: They don't have the funds for the infrastructure to replace Megaupload. That is hilarious. Sounds like a bunch of hopefulls thinking they can make money off Mega's issues atm.

It isn't going to happen. More about getting themselves in the headlines than anything else.

Look at us...we are Anon....you know Anonymous....YOU KNOW...the HACKER GUYS?....We stole your aunts CC# last year? No?

That group is so flippin stupid. It isn't even a group really.

That group has 15 year old girls who are smarter than you'll ever be. They took out a multi-million dollar company (HB-Gary) and exposed the Obama admin making fake social media profiles to steer debate, not to mention exposing Child Porn viewers perosnal info.

Tin foil hat? Those activities are known and reported. Try to be knowledge about a subject before you start dismissing as stupid.

Those activities? Do you mean the criminal activities of this group you are so lovingly stroking? Those activities?

Please do NOT sit here and pump them like some saving grace.

Man you have got to get outside your cave, Virginie!! Pull the tobacco out your mouth and do more research yourself.

Virginie, LOL.

I'm not saying they are a ‘saving grace’, but I’m damn glad that there is someone one is showing some resistance. And I'm aware that what they do is illegal; I don’t care.

If you lend it and a copy is made, I consider that stealing. With digital distribution, there is no "copy" that leaves your hands and your ability to view when another person gets it.

Resistance by breaking into legit businesses and stealing personal information of legit every day joes just trying to get by? They then take Joe's money and use it for whatever spin they can garnish from fighting "the man"? That is ok with you and you don't care. You clearly stated so earlier...see? I bolded it so we don't get lost here.

So that total anarchy approach makes complete and total sense, no matter who gets hurt in the process? It's resistance and you are glad they are there. That's scary right there, Virgina.

Would you like it if someone hacked your PC or Bank or Bed Matress and stole your credit cards/cash and personal information and used it for w/e they chose was a resistance cause?

Would it bother you then, Virginia?

I somehow do not feel I would get a valid response, but I can assure you, if it was done to you, you would not be waving the Whiskey Rebellion flag of support.
