Fire Wade Please

Yea, and you can keep pretending that all this supposed lack of discipline stuff is all the stuff of DREAMS. By the way, where are we ranked in penalties? Did I hear you say #32? Yea, you are right. Wade runs a real tight ship.

Well, he's no Landry in letting penalties get waaaaaaayyyyyyy out of hand.

What the Cowboys need is

1.) cut back on penalties
2.) JG to put opposing defenses on the back foot again
3.) execute better on ST

And that will do it for now.

This rough time is just Wade's way of weeding out the bandwagoneers for me. :)

I think the PC's tell you about a person's PERSONALITY. And Wade Phillips had his adrenal gland fail. The guy has ZERO anything but an awe shucks sense of humor. How does THAT GUY get a team to reach its potential? I just don't see it.

Have you ever seen a Belichick PC?

They aren't nearly as good as a Herm Edwards one.

How many here feel there is a direct correlation between press conferences and winning?

How were Landry's ? Chuck Knoll's? Dungy? Lovie Smith?

Yea, but at least Belichick is a jerk. :) I mean there is SOME edge to the guy. Wade is sometimes SIGHING as he gives an answer. I mean he throws his hands up on the sidelines. You may not like what some of the media are saying, but some of it is dead on. The guy HAS lowered expectations for this team, and I don't think that is accidental. It is a way to shield himself and the rest of his staff from accountability. And that isn't just a forum poster saying it either. Terrence Newman said they take no accountability. Can we hear a player say it?

The Hard Knocks clip with Anthony Spencer told me a lot about Wade as a HC. He practically apologized to Spencer for fining him $100.00.

I literally got sick to my stomach when I saw it.

I'm sorry, I've tried to stay positive this week, think about the fact that we still have a meaningful game to play, etc., etc., but hearing Wade Phillip's press conference yesterday just sealed it for me. What a weak voiced, ZERO motivation of a coach. If Jerry Jones keeps him as a HEAD COACH he will get what he deserves, and it won't be a Super Bowl Championship.

Yeah what this team really needs is the best press conference answer giving coach in order to win in the playoffs. I wonder if Bill Parcells is avaiable? He's great at press conferences and has a very strong voice. He'd be perfect!!!

Landry, multiple super bowl championships, division championships, conference championships, 25 years of winning.

Knoll 4 Super Bowl championships

Love Smith, Super Bowl appearance.

Wade? ZERO PLAYOFF WINS. ZERO. ZERO. ZERO. can you hear that? ZERO.

You got it Cap. If you can't see that Phillips is weak then you just don't know what you are looking at.

Your missing the forest for the trees friend. Do you think I'm saying we need a good PR guy? WE HAVE JERRY for that. I'm saying we need a real coach and EVEN AT A PRESS CONFERENCE you can tell the guy has ZERO ability to motivate people.

I think you're putting a bit too much stress on the press conference. The OP's point wasn't the PC, it was Wade's ATTITUDE.

The PC just happened to be the setting, not the OP's point.

Thank you Rack. Someone gets it.

Even though I think Wade Phillips' fate should be determined based on what we do this year, the bold is a fact and it can't be disputed.

The point I was trying to make is that we have had both types of coaches Hard noise and soft and neither has had success in the playoffs. I think we are all overating the coaches effect on the game, when it really comes down to the players.

I'm pretty sure that both coaches have told Romo over and over again to proctect the ball. Same goes for o-line penalties. There is only so much coaching you can do, but ultimately it comes down to the players.

As Parcells use to say, "you are what you are".

Both Romo and the o-line are undisciplined and I doubt it will every change no matter who the coach is.

Jerry won't fire Wade, even if we don't win a playoff game this year. Really, what kind of position do you think this team would be in if we had not had so many injuries? Kosier, Romo, Barber, Holland, Felix, Austin, Roy 31, Newman, Jenkins, Pacman, McBriar. Injuries are part of the game, I understand that, but they had a HUGE impact on our record this season. Would we have won the division? Probably not. Would we be locks for the playoffs at this point? Definitely. We'll probably make it this year even with all the injuries we suffered.

Have you ever seen the America's Game on the 70s Steelers teams? All the players -- not some, all -- talked about how incredibly bland, boring, and dull Chuck was. They all made fun of his motivational speeches that went over like lead balloons and how he was the worst story teller of all time.

Maybe if you didn't want people focusing on the PC aspect, you shouldn't have started the thread with "Seeing the PC yesterday sealed it for me." :)

One thing I do think is that Wade, like Parcells, is even more drained than usual on Mondays. IMO that's part of having 60+ year-old-coaches doing such an incredibly demanding job. It's also why I'm not so sure about Holmgren.

But speaking of him, who do you want? Firing someone just for the sake of firing someone never does any good unless you have someone better ready to go.

We all know that Super Bowls are won in the press conference.

Without a good rousing PC, we have nothing. And Romo's "aw shucks" attitude is costing us victories as well, and so is Bennet's body language and him not tucking his shirt in.

And the stadium beer really isn't cold enough and the Valley Ranch toilet paper is scratchy AND it's single-ply -and the Cowboys need that little circle on their pants with their number in it again -and Jason needs a better haircut -and, well I guess that's about it...

Trying to be relatively objective.

Wade Pros:
- Defense leads the league in sacks
- Has made some excellent in-game decisions (highlighted by the 4th down call vs. Tamps at the end of the half to get the TD; without that decision and resulting TD, there might not be any playoff hopes right now)
- Allows himself to scheme based on his players, and doesn't try to make his players fit a scheme
- Doesn't get too up or too down

Wade Cons:
- His team plays sloppy and reckless too often (evidenced by the turnovers and league-leading penalties)
- Has never won a playoff game
- Gets too conservative and "obvious" at times regarding end-of-game Xs&Os, e.g., vs. Pitt when the prevent D gave up the TD drive, and vs. Baltimore in giving up back2back runs

Do the pros outweigh the cons for the "Keep Wade" crowd? Do the cons outweigh the Pros for the "Fire Wade" crowd? I am still undecided. Feel free to add more pros and cons.

This is the lamest excuse in the world for keeping a coach, unless you truly believe that Wade Phillips is the at least 32nd best head coach in the entire universe.

And Cowher or Holmgren would be a good place to start looking when we evaluate the rest of the universe.
