The run defense was more worrying than anything.

No one sets up and gets rid of ball quicker than Tom Brady and he was wearing Greg Hardy like a fur coat entire game last season when Cowboys played Pats. Getting rid of ball quickly means Cowboys have to get better inside pressure and play press coverage on all receivers.

He hit Brady on passes that took time to develop.

Our cover guys were playing off yesterday giving our dline no chance to get to the QB. There isn't a defensive end in the league that could've got to their QB.

Go back and watch that Pats game. And read my post again.

All last night's game proved is that we still have nary a clue if we are screwed or OK at DE.

Wish we would of got that Saue (sp) kid #72 as an udfa. He put pressure on our QB every time he was on the field.
UDFA that signed with the Rams. He's 6'3 250 lbs which I considered light for a DE ( I know that couple of Cowboys DEs might actually be lighter lol). His uncle was the great Junior Seau

From what we saw in the first preseason game, wish we had signed him. He made Green look terrible, but then again that could be just green. I hope our DEs are going against Tyron because going against the likes of green in practice, might give you false confidence.

I don't think the DE position will be even close to "OK" until after Lawrence' suspension is over with.

But I do expect more once Mayowa and Tapper are allowed to play.

I actually like what I saw from Irving. It was not perfect, but I saw some great play to go along with some not-so-good play, but I think its more a matter of him learning that position than not having the ability. Remember, he got very little coaching in college and played most inside for us last year. Its a big adjustment, but I think he has the tools.
He reminds me a lot of DLaw when he was learning LDE last year. It takes a while, but I suspect he will end up being like DLaw last year, struggling early and then becoming very good later.

I don't think Russell is a RDE at all. Not explosive enough, not athletic enough, not enough bend, etc. etc. He just doesn't have the tools. His ceiling is Mincey from '14. I think he might make a decent LDE.

I am hoping that Mayowa can hold the fort at RDE until DLaw comes back and I think he comes back as the RDE.

I agree with your takes on Irving and Russell... I think Irving could have some potential. Russell... Well at this point I think his ceiling is limited.

From all the camp reports I expected a lot more from the DE position. I'm back to being pessimistic

I wouldn't go down that road quite yet... Tapper didn't play and he's flashed in camp. Mayowa could offer a boost when he starts playing.

I wasn't impressed with the defense ends either, but let's give it time, there getting reps, we all wrote off demarcus Lawrence last year, than he all of a sudden went on a 7 game sack streak, and now is winning battles vs Tyron Smith in practice. I believe Irving will adjust, the experience for him , Russell and the others guys will help alot

Liked what I saw from the kid. If L.A. tries to stash him on the practice squad, I snatch him up quick and cut some dead weight. The kid has a little something to him, for sure.

Alot of people did

They would be the ones who re-write their opinions week to week. From suck to Super Bowl.

Ya know, the people that look at QB rating charts for rookies in the preseason opener and come to immediate conclusions on their careers.

This is what I was seeing as well. Every now and then you'd see quick penetration or collapsing of the middle but the ball was out before anything could become of if it,,, and the secondary was playing soft.

Seriously??? Rams 1st TD run was all on him. Got completely trapped and gave up a gapping hole.

I was critical of him as well. He looked indecisive at times and it cost us. It's something that has a fair chance to improve and it wasn't all bad.

Chaz Green was completely gassed by the time Ian Seau started getting snaps.

That was the first football game Chaz played in over a year and he was never going to be able to handle taking that many snaps.

Seau flashed, good for him, but he was fresh and Green was running on empty.
