Would a comparison to other teams improve this team's situation or would it make you feel better in some sort of 'at least we're not Cleveland' kind of way?

You need to keep things in proper perspective. How does the Cowboy DL compare to the other teams in its division, conference and league? Or you can just throw out and ignore all data that does not fit your agenda. Now, if your goal is to just down, down, down everyone, then feel free to continue on with your humorous, yet useless rant.

Perhaps I missed it, but what exactly are your solutions to your perceived defensive line weakness?

So if some other teams stink too, ours smells less? It looks like it is you who need to keep things in perspective.

I worry about the Cowboys' issues as a fan. I don't care much about other teams being worse.

Perhaps I missed it, but what exactly are your solutions to your perceived defensive line weakness?

Do some investigating. My own thoughts are well known.

Is he better than Mincey? 3 sacks in a rotation isn't bad. I want Jack Crawford back for 1 more.

Remember the cowboys like to have bodies at all spots going into the draft so they can draft as pure as possible. This gives them a solid rotation DE to help with Gregory's unreliability. They'll sign some DBs, LB, and a RB. Gachkar and DMC were good signings last year and White was let go with no strings attached. They'll likely also make a play for a QB like McCoy. Hopefully they do better this year.

I like the approach of the past few years now that Stephen is more involved.

I understand the Cowboys wanting to be fiscally cap responsible and sign all these projects, mid to low round and upside possibilities guys but the thing is they don't up coached anybody. I cant remember the last time they took a "Project guy" or a (Blue Light Special) and actually turned him into anybody special or above average. The last coaching staff to up-coach players was Jimmy Johnson's staff and we all know for the last 20 years we haven't had a coaching staff that can do that. Its fine what they are doing for the cap, but it gives me the Hee bee Jeebies, thinking they can get all these projects and blue light specials to actually come together and be awesome on defense. I don't trust the coaching staff.

DMC and Gachkar both contributed just last year. Mincey the year before. Bernadeau the year before that. The WR from the Chargers that had to leave the game due to concussion syndrome was money the year he was here. Irving is clearly a FA project. We've gotten a ton of mileage out of various LB over the years.

The Cowboys rosters is full of young talent. I'm not sure what you mean by "up-coach."

Yeah, based on the 3 sacks he got in Atlanta last year. What a 'career revitalization'!

This 4-3 defensive shift has taken us right back to where so many of us feared. A team with no pass rush, scrambling for answers. Just like the good old days.

Demarcus Lawrence can play the role of 'end of days' Charles Haley, whose career was ended because of back issues, only Lawrence can do it much sooner.

Randy Gregory can play Shante Carver, a bust draft pick who never accomplished anything.

Clayborn can be Marcellus Wiley all over again and bring those same 3 sacks.

And we can waste the #4 overall pick on Joey Bosa to handle the Greg Hardy role and get us 7-8 sacks a year and never be worth the draft pick invested in him.

Sorry, for being a downer, but the thought of this glacier being any sort of answer, especially if they let Hardy go, is beyond depressing...

:(

you had it all right until you got to Bosa pick. I would replace Greg Hardy with Greg Ellis role.

Adrian Clayborn is among the Cowboys' pinpointed guys in free agency, sources tell CHQ. And if he's as good as ex-Falcons All-Pro Chuck Smith says he is? Dallas is onto something here.

Last spring, Adrian Clayborn was signed to a one-year deal in Atlanta, the belief about the former first-round pick being that he would revitalize his career with the Falcons as he was coming off knee and bicep injuries while in Tampa.

Fast-forward to a year later. The career is revitalized. The Cowboys like former first-rounders who are reclamation projects who don't come at Tier-1 prices ... and they like Clayborn, who sources tell CHQ has already been contacted with the goal being an agreement with Dallas.

Falcons former All-Pro pass-rusher Chuck Smith, who trains Clayborn, tells CHQ: "He's dynamic. He'll be the best pass-rusher on Dallas' roster. He'll get you eight or nine sacks.''

All a bunch of nothing.

The last time I got excited about a pass rushing free agent signing was Dat Dude and he turned out to be a Dat Dud. Eight or nine sacks? Is that what the standard is in Dallas these days?

Crud! You're right. That was what I meant, Ellis, not Hardy.

So that is how you reckon it? Joey Bosa = Greg Ellis. Shaq Lawson actually looks like Ellis/McGinest to me in pads. None of them play like each other to my eyes.

The thing about Ellis is that he was the 3rd pass rusher selected with Moss still on the board when we went at 8. We won't have that problem if we're drafting Bosa.

I thought Ellis has very solid career. He was great against run was average as pass rusher. I expect Bosa to have similar career.

And this is despite the fact that Bosa was superior as a pass rusher as opposed to run defender? You have any basis for this?

Maybe Up-coach isn't the right word to describe what i'm talking about. Irving is the type of player who I'm talking about. We grabbed him off someone else's practice squad but can the coaches coach him and make him a better player other than he's just a guys to fill in a hole. That's what I'm talking about. I just don't have any faith in our coaching staff to sign people and make them better and want to keep them because they are valuable to our defense.

I think you select those kind of players in the teens to twenties, not with the 4th pick.

This offseason has been dissappointing so far ( although it just started). I cant see how this dline is going to be better than last years pitiful d line. It seems like we are going backwards.

I dont see how this group + a couple of tier 2 DEs and a draft pick will get close to the min 42 sacks that all the playoff teams had. Frustrating!
