I don't think anyone really has a problem with signing this guy as a rotational guy.

The problem is the Jones' have been screaming about fixing the pass rush for weeks and now when it appears we are after this guy, suddenly there is chatter that this guy might be a 9 sack guy (when he probably isn't). That's scary in the sense that you wonder if the Jones' are buying the hype and think this guy is the elixir to their pass rush woes.

And there isn't a lot in the draft that solves the pass rush problems. Spence might be one of the only real pure pass rushers available in the first round or two.

What's also scary is that there never seems to be a middle ground with this org. Either they go balls to the wall in free agency and throw money around like candy or they go the exact opposite and sign low and mid-tier guys and talk about their potential, etc.

I see the off season is finished

Good thing the off season isn't judged by what happens when they first wave the green flag.

I mean seriously, what did you really expect?

I was naively expecting them to invest in an impact defensive end and/or DT to make a push since Romos time is almost up. Was praying they would spend 15-20 million on 1-2 Defensive line players regardless of having to overpay.

I would have wanted the FO to realize that we dont need a platoon of 3-6 sack guys. The offseason has clearly just begun, but i really would like us to get a tier 1 FA on the defensive line. I dont trust the line that we have inscluding clayborne

Well, who knows, maybe we'll get Bosa in round one and Ogbah in round two -- it could happen, maybe . . . (or not.) Way to go out on a limb, right? -- lol.

Yep, it's like maybe this and maybe that, and then . . . nothing!

It's way too early for Stephen to start looking at players. Wait till late next week and then you might start to see
some Cowboy action in FA. We wait till all the big contract guys get most of the available money and then
we start seeking out the Kmart Blue light specials.

I would agree with that 100% -- it's just this first week of free agency that incites agonizing frustration for those of us who starve for relief. Week 2 can't get here soon enough for me. I'm confident we'll get some measure of help with several 2nd and 3rd level vets but will it really be enough? Needless to say, we won't have an answer to that for quite some time to come. We'll see eventually.

Look at the history of signing these guys for big contracts based on past performance. It rarely pans out for the team that pays
that big money. Look at Carr and Hardy...pretty much wasted money. Look at what Suh got last year...was it worth it?
Be patient and the Cowboys will hire some bridge players, some of which might over-perform, that will pave the way to our getting
a better team from the draft. That is the best and only way to build a championship franchise. That pre-supposes that we have
a FO and scouting staff that can properly identify the right BPA's to pick in the draft...doesn't it?

I hate the offseason. I hate the first week of FA, even more.

i think those are just fine.

i hate the IGS all butthurt we didn't sign their players the day before it all started then act as if FA is over an hour after the 1st signing.

now THAT is annoying. :)

Didn't mean to mislead anyone with my anxiety over our defensive talent drought. I'll never be one to make a case for overspending in FA, especially since we've already seen and paid the consequences of doing so many times in the past. We surely don't need to revisit spending like we did with the likes of Carr, Hardy and too many others.

Dallas will be obliged to re-sign its all-pro offensive linemen in future years, so that, in itself, is a valid caution to remain steadfastly on the trail of frugality if we seriously intend to keep them around. I'm totally in line with our cap-friendly spending policy and wouldn't want it any other way. It WOULD be great to ring the bell with our draft picks in the mid and later rounds for a considerable number of years, however.

Hopefully we'll realize that goal this year or, at least, sometime in the not-too-distant future. If Stephen and the staff can somehow keep getting Jerry to curb his impulsive ways on draft day and allow Will McClay to do what he does best, it'll help considerably. Let us pray . . .

We're going to upgrade that DL with a DE with Erb's palsy.

Then maybe we can upgrade our future at QB with a guy with cerebral palsy.

It's a good time to be a Cowboys fan.

Roll Tom over.

LOL -- you may not be overly optimistic but there's much to be said for creativity . . .
