Fish: Dallas negotiating contract with Steele

With Prescott, Lamb and Diggs seemingly topping the Cowboys list of priorities, there's an obvious trickle down effect. Look no further than Tony Pollard, who failed to ink a new deal by Monday's 4 p.m. deadline for tagged players.

That leaves Terence Steele as the only other extension candidate this offseason. The expectation was that the Cowboys would exercise a wait-and-see approach with Steele given he's coming off major knee surgery.

However, Mike Fisher of SI.com understands Steele is currently negotiating a contract that would keep him in Dallas for the foreseeable future.

ModEdit: Removed "lifetime" from thread title due to being click-bait by the article's author (not the poster).

Need to get better on Oline and soon, Tyron isn't going to be around long, Martin might be right behind him, Biadasz might also need to go, they need depth right now and probably a starter or two in the close future.

True, for depth, but the Tyron and Martin departures need to be addressed in the earlier part of the draft, not with what’s left on a given late July day.

Assuming Steele returns to form we should be good at the tackles for a good while. I think Biadisz is a pretty good center and has been improving. The guard will be a concern once Tyler moves to tackle full time. Martin is fine obviously until he decides to retire, just the LG.

It seems consistent with Jerry's previous strategy, trying to get an injured UFA to sign, he can probably smell a discount tag!!

Better pay Zack Martin first. He's holding out training camp because he's viewed as way underpaid at 7 million. He does have a point.

Unexpected? A Steele contract has been an on and off again topic this whole offseason and pretty much a no brainer if they can agree to something both sides find reasonable

Because it made him the highest paid Guard in the NFL?
Yeah for a week. It’s moronic to sign a long term deal in the NFL…..if you sign a long term deal and you start to suck they cut you. You sign a long term deal and you’re elite then you turn into the 9th highest paid guard and want more money. So again, why did he sign this deal?

To be set for the rest of his life!!! And the rest of his kids lives

That's why it's the guaranteed $'s that matter. What's moronic is to go year to year and risk injury. It's all about total $'s. That's why players hate the tag. It's not the salary, it's the lack of a huge lump sum pay day.

I don't think this is necessarily unexpected. If true I think it just means the Cowboys weren't close on contracts with Diggs or Lamb so just moved ahead to another future priority.
