Fish: How will Schotty influence the Draft?

The issue you run into with the ”just draft one later” is exactly what happened last season.

We waited. It was picked clean.

But in those late rounds you either end up with Bucky Irving (Great) or Marshawn Lloyd (Not great)

I would much prefer Henderson in round 2 or Judkins in round 3. But 31 Other teams feel the same
The issue we specifically run into is our idiot owner keeps trading 4th round picks for nothing…we could’ve drafted Lloyd or taken another back in the 4th last year if we had the pick.

I’m 100% sure there will be a quality back in the 4th or even the 5th this year.

Schott is a run first coordinator, his priority is going to want to fix their run game. Think OL, RB and TE's.
He was run heavy in NY at the direction of Ryan. He was pass heavy with the Rams and Seattle… part of the reason he was fired after going 12-4 in Seattle was because Carroll wanted to return to a run based offense!

His father was a huge proponent of a run first offensive scheme, Marty ball!

Wilson had 512 and 558 passing attempts in 2019 and 20…. Sam Bradford had 551 in 2012. He hasn’t exactly been his dad when he’s had the option not to!

He thinks TE Tyler Warren could now be a major target........can't disagree. Especially if Witten is added to the staff
He gives you another recieving weapon, blocker and protector.

His 3 seasons as OC in Seattle the starting TEs had 29, 23, and 24 rec… doesn’t seem to be a big part of his offense in the passing game. Definitely not to the extent that the 12th pick is needed or that Ferguson and Schoonmaker can’t handle!
When has this guy ever had a clue or not been talking out his ***!

Good post

We shall see, but if they hire Anthony Lynn as their OC that would be an indicator what to expect.

Solari is going to be the OC. They wouldn’t have had to interview Koger for the Rooney rule requirement otherwise!

Im really big on the importance of a great TE as a security blanket for the QB. Just look at SF, Philly, KC, Baltimore and on but im not sold on Warren at 12 and i would much prefer Graham or Carter
What? Carter and Graham will be long gone. Carter likely in the top 5, Jeremiah even has him first overall but I doubt it. Either way neither are dropping to 12.

Good point(s) but why?
By choice, quality of running game talent, or quite a few games playing catchup? All could have impacted his ability to run his preferred scheme.

Everything is about the $60 million man. We see the HC hire to placate him and probably the draft. I see them going heavy on offense early. We definitely need a RB, #2 WR and OG. Unbelievably some are even talking about TE Warren at 12. Granted we also need everything on defense too, but this is about help for our QB.

I expect a combo of RB, WR or OG with our first 2 picks. Right now I'd say Jeanty in the first with a WR or OL in the 2nd. Or Burden 1st and RB 2nd. Defense has to fend for itself.

They went 12-4 in 2020 and Carroll fired him at the end of the season for philosophical reasons…Carroll wanted to go back to a more run oriented offense. Wilson had 558 attempts.
The season prior Wilson had 512 attempts and Carson had 1200 yards!

I read a nugget that he wanted to add more "Shanahan style" to the offense this season but MM didn't agree. Have you heard anything about that?

No! Description I read is that he runs a Coryell with west coast elements and heavy play action. Solari was the Oline coach when he was in Seattle and i can’t find anything on him running anything other than man/inside zone. Shanahan is mostly outside zone dependent on misdirection!
Looking at the 2 people they’ve interviewed for OC I think it’s going to be Solari… I wouldn’t get my hopes up for Shanahan esq offense this season!

There is zero indication that Solari is going to be the OC, if he does return he will be the OL Coach which he has been his entire career.

Nothing to say he’s leaving … think something would be out by now!
Interviewed 2 minority candidates, neither of which seem qualified for the position. Nor do either have any history whatsoever with this team, nor with Shottenheimer. They’re Rooney rule compliants… nothing more!
Lunda Wells mentioned as being interviewed to be the new OLine coach.
Writing on wall in big glowing letters!

Who gives a damn. No one cares about winning and until Jerry strokes out we are all screwed. See you in 5 years boys.
