Johnny Walker by the rail road car load cant remove the horror of seeing the end of the last season. 160 million for one playoff win against a team that didn't belong in the playoffs. Even Jerry knows he wont be able recoup that investment in Jersey sales. Past time to move on. No more good money after bad.

It is possible to find another QB. I think people are stressing too much over this. Hell, the Bucs made the playoffs with Mayfield. I don't dislike Dak, I dislike Dak at 60M a year +95M carry over. A QB like Dak on a rookie deal would be just fine. Without the panic mode in the playoffs of course. Even a second contract isn't that bad if done correctly. But a 3rd contract is where it gets really tough.
Part of the problem is it’s tough to invest a premium pick in a QB that may need to sit a year while you’re claiming to still try to win, and your first round pick is always your top acquisition for the off-season.

Their plan is very flawed if you’re trying to win in todays NFL. Other teams are using resources that they don’t, but you’ve got this Stephen. Hoard that cash. Your multi billion dollar inheritance clearly won’t suffice.

Does Baker suck? That team made the divisional round and played well vs Detroit with a QB on his 4th team in two seasons.
Baker has had a very up / down career. Dak would be in the same boat as him but its more expected of a 4th round pick instead of #1 overall.

Sometimes I just wish I didn't pay attention to contracts, and how they work. I only started doing that in 2016.

Here's the issue with Dak. If they gave him a 4 year 55M a year extension, his average cap hit would be 63M a year when you add the 95M leftover. A 5 year deal makes it 61M. There's no good way to structure that. That would put the Cowboys at a huge disadvantage against other teams. Teams that have better QBs. That's the problem with most 3rd contracts for QBs. Dak's regular season magic against bad teams isn't making up that gap.

Yeah well aren't we tired of just making it? Why replace red apples with green ones? Sign Dak but draft his freaking replacement. They did the same with romo until they stumbled onto Dak. There was never another qb drafted till the end of Romo, and even then they didn't spend any significant picks ok on the QB position. Romo was almost paralyzed, literally and this team still wouldn't spend significant draft capital on the position. Smh.

It's very simple, he gets us to an nfc title game at the very least and he can get paid again, if not then it makes the decision to let him go easier. There is no reason to pay him early, even if it costs you a little extra money in the event you decide to bring him back so be it.

I wouldn't lock myself into 4 more years when he can't prove he can win anything.

True, on the 3rd contracts. But, it could provide a windfall for most of the current roster. This way they can go ahead and firm up their travel and late January vacations in Cancun, Rio and Hawaii, etc. And still watch the Super Bowl.

I can see why Dak would want a longer deal at this point. A longer contract probably takes him to the end of his career. I don't see Dak making it to 40 and beyond in terms of age.

I can't quite wrap my head around how a shorter deal for Dallas works unless they are trying to buy a year or two until they can line up a successor. Maybe Trey Lance was supposed to be it and they are scurrying for plan B. Paying Dak near the top of the market and carrying his cap hit forward dedicates a lot of money to the QB position. It's tough, then, to burn up too many years on a rookie contract for anyone drafted. I guess a short deal gives them a draft or two to find a replacement.

I don't understand. Shouldn't the goal be to make Dak a Cowboy for life?
