LOL at those claiming we can easily find another as good. Look at our record and then try and say that with a straight face

Not for 2-3 million a year. That's the problem with Jerry. He will overspend for a kicker when you can get a decent one for the minimum.

And Jones could get a bottom of the roster dwellers for the minimum for quite a few positions and the one player who does his job at the highest level of anyone on the team is where you want to start trimming fat?

I would prefer he start pinching pennies and stop paying deep roster reserves one and two million a year so we can pay Bailey.

And with the head coach who just finished how many one point losses this season?

If someone gave us a 2nd rounder for Bailey? I'd be okay with Jerry himself going out there and kicking our field goals.

You would probably be singing different tune if we took that 2nd round choice and blew it on a reserve tight end again.

I'm fine with 2nd round tendering him if you're not going to blow this team up and start a rebuild. I would not even entertain the thought of signing him to a long term deal.

Lets see Jerry screw this one up and offer him a first round tender.......that would be like flushing $1 million down the drain.

A 2nd round tender is fine. Bailey's fantastic, and I hope it works out that he's a Cowboy for a long time, but the quality of FG kicking in the NFL seems to have gone up. If you look around the past couple of years, there are a lot of kickers that are hitting FGs at a 88-90% clip or better. And you never know when a good kicker can just lose it with a particular team. That said, you gotta love Bailey's consistency so far.

Gimme that 2nd round pick if someone offers it, but I'm pretty sure no one will.

whats that stat about us losing by like a combined 8 points for the entire season? We HAVE to have a great kicker with this team. I mean if you can get a 2nd rounder for him (which we won't) then obviously you'd take that. but you don't let him go if it comes down to paying him what he's worth. He's kept us in so many games, and i remember the Buehler days like they were yesterday. no thanks.

Dallas will almost assuredly tender him a R2 and then try to negotiate a longer term deal.

While Bailey is basically money I wouldn't go crazy for him. Dallas is a very easy place to kick given the home stadium.
I'd hate to replace Bailey but I also wouldn't pay him top 3 Kicker money 4-5 years out. I wouldn't hand him more than 6-7m in 2014 in total bonus.salary.

There is a huge difference between a "decent" kicker and Bailey.

Ok Jerry, go ahead and waste the salary cap 2-3 mill on a kicker. That's your MO and it's why this team SUCKS!

That difference right now appears to be a random 45 yard field goal kicked somewhere over the course of a 16 game schedule.

It's funny, in the offseason threads when dealing with what to do with Ware, Austin, etc. a few people said we should do what a well run organization like the Patriots would do. I think we all know what Belichick would do here.

Offer a 2nd rd tender?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Gostkowski
As a result of the expiring NFL-NFLPA collective bargaining agreement, however, Gostkowski became a restricted free agent; the Patriots offered him the second-round tender of $1,759,000 for the 2010 season. Gostkowski signed the tender on April 17.[17]

I was referring to the other time :)

Viniateri played for the Pats for 10 years... Clearly he got more than one contract out of them, under Belichek's regime. They even franchised him, at one point.

Edit: from their site
Career Transaction
Adam Vinatieri was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on June 28, 1996 … He originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Amsterdam Admirals of the World League (now NFL Europe) in the spring of 1996 … Re-signed by the Patriots (07/19/98) … Re-signed with the Patriots (03/12/99) … Designated the Patriots franchise player (02/21/02) … Re-signed with the Patriots (03/15/02) ... Designated the Patriots franchise player (02/21/05).
