with our current HC we are going to have lots of close games. We need a very good kicker.

With the number of close games the Boys play in, he's worth every cent.

those thinking let him walk and get another obviously don't value kickers. just tender him a 2nd rnd tender and work on a 3 or 4 year deal that makes it cheaper.
we are not in near the cap hell people think. when all is said and done we will have more than enough money to tender jones, bailey, a fre agent or two including a starter quality player and extend dez

I love Bailey. The guy is solid and cold as ice. But if someone offered me a 2nd, and especially a 1st, for a kicker I'd take that every single time and roll with whatever I needed to from a kicker.

Bailey is awesome and all but there is no kicker, now or ever, worth a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Bailey is tied for 27th lowest paid K in the league. Accomplished kickers are getting in excess of $2M a year.

If you want to something to grind your gears, he has paid backup garbage linemen like Phil Costa and ST "aces" like Danny McCray a million to a million and half to do their jobs.

And as for a kicker not being that hard to find, David Buehler says hello.

Good comparison. Cut one of them, and use money for Dan The Man......

whats that stat about us losing by like a combined 8 points for the entire season? We HAVE to have a great kicker with this team. I mean if you can get a 2nd rounder for him (which we won't) then obviously you'd take that. but you don't let him go if it comes down to paying him what he's worth. He's kept us in so many games, and i remember the Buehler days like they were yesterday. no thanks.

Throw in Nick Folks declining year and the thought of losing Bailey becomes greater. Also with baileys improved leg strength he eliminated the need for the extra kicker position

That difference right now appears to be a random 45 yard field goal kicked somewhere over the course of a 16 game schedule.

It's funny, in the offseason threads when dealing with what to do with Ware, Austin, etc. a few people said we should do what a well run organization like the Patriots would do. I think we all know what Belichick would do here.
Gostkowski signed a 5-year, $15+million contract 3 years ago.

Oh come on... Anyone of 500 kickers can make those kicks

11 teams had kickers kick for more than 90% this season.

In general kicking has improved dramatically over the past decade or two in the NFL.

Dan Bailey is a great kicker, however, these days even the top of the bottom half of kickers (#17 ranked -- the Giants Kicker) still kicked %88.5 per of his field goals.

The difference between great kickers and good kickers is very small.

I'd hate to lay out $4m a year for a kicker like the Bears did. I hope they can get Bailey for $2.5m or so.

Sign him to the second round tender for 2m. See if he can do it again, if yes give him a 3yr deal.
