I could see Ron Rivera coming here before Urban...

I think he has the more flexible personality and doesn't seek the media. Meyer is pretty comfortable with the media. That's not a good thing with the most media hungry owner in pro sports history.

Feinbaum is considered one of the best at what he does and has made SEC observations for years that pan out. He does look a little goofy but he's got credibility with many but it's still just an opinion.

One of the hottest names in college football right now is Baylor Bears head coach Matt Rhule, and he may be heading to the NFL this offseason. In fact, sources tell Pro Football Network Insiders Tony Pauline and Ben Allbright that Rhule will be an even hotter candidate than Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. But, where will he land and what is Rhule’s preference? Sources tell Pauline and Allbright that at least two teams are interested right now – the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers. And when it comes to Rhule’s preference, Pauline notes that if the New York Giants head coaching job opens up, he’s very interested in the position

What makes him better than Riley is that he's not a one trick pony, he's one of the few Big 12 guys to make the change on the D side of the ball when resurrecting that program.

We are going to end up with Chip Kelly v.2 with meyer or riley and the giants are going to end up with Rhule who has the potential to be a top coach in the league and are going to possibly get a young tom coughlin.

A. I don't view riley as anything other than a guy with superior talent in a conference that is not very good. Simple as that. I don't think much of OU football or there coaches. I think and thought the same of Bob Stoops when he was the candidate everyone wanted years ago.

B. Urban Meyer is a college coach like steve spurrier to me. His coaching style, his offense is all geared to success in college. HIs resume helps him recruit and gives him credibility amongst young players out of high school. He has complete control over everything because he has risen to God status in college with all the success he has had. If he were to take another college job I imagine he would put together a top 3 program again and compete for championships. I don't think any of that stuff will work in the nfl, his style of offense, his I am in charge because I am in charge deal will not work with athletes making the money they make. Coaching in dallas will make him the third most important person. It just won't work.

C. I like Rhule's background, I love that he played for paterno and coached under Coughlin. I like the style and approach both took to football. He has shown an ability to win without superior talent. He seems to have a good group of coaches around him. He is low key and blue collar. I think his approach is the right one and I think he is set to succeed in the nfl with that approach.

having said all that I like nfl coaches with an old school approach more than any of them. I would like to take people from the pittsburgh-baltimore staffs maybe a Keith Butler, or a pete carmichael in new orleans who have been long time coaches and been a part of proven success. I like the idea of Dan Campbell a lot and I think he would put together an excellent staff.

in the end, what I or anyone else thinks means nothing. Jerry is going to hire whoever shows the most willing to work under his management style and I think blowing smoke up Jerry and Stephens *** about Dak will be a big factor also. I am in the mindset of tear it down and let a good head coach with a good staff rebuild while you have this cap space and will have a huge amount of defensive turnover coming anyway.

I would be ok with older proven defensive coaches like Lovie Smith-Ron Rivera-Don Martindale. I think they could build a defense that would succeed quickly and would put together a staff that would be good.

jerry will be spending more time with Eugenia. Stephen will be running the show. so it's soj that the new coach will have to come to for a working relationship. shouldn't be difficult. Stephen just wants to win.

they can't hire aikman. He is already on record as stating he disagrees with their management style. That means that after the first loss the local media will be looking to pin Troy against Jerry-Stephen. That is a recipe for disaster.

there is also the issue that Aikman has never done this before. I heard him last year on the ed werder podcast say that Josh Rosen is the best qb available in the draft and should be taken number 1. He went on about how he is the most nfl ready and would be the most successful long term. That means that had Dallas had the number 1 pick last year and aikman was in charge they would have picked Josh Rosen.

People would be losing their minds. I look forward to Aikman being in the league and I think a place like the LA Chargers is a perfect fit for him. he would bring a level of attention and interest to that organization that it needs, he is as much an LA guy as a texas or Oklahoma guy. Seems to be a perfect match at some point.

Correct. There's also the aspect of you leading kids that will do damn near anything to win, in order to better themselves..as opposed to a bunch of damn divas out for a paycheck.

My "infatuation", if you will, for Meyer was based solely on what he did with what was given to him. As I mentioned before, he came into garbage programs, or less-than-desirable situations..and hit the ground running.

I also don't believe that many of the wrinkles in the NFLs offenses are much different than what Urban has experience with. Plus he made waves in conferences like the SEC, not the Run N Shoot, Air Raid Big12 minus 2..or whatever they are now.

Everyone's main point is that the college coaches just don't translate, but I feel a new spark with a new head coach at 8-8 is a hell of a lot more exciting than trotting RoboClapper.500 out..yet again

It is both amazing and disheartening at the lucrative careers that people can have in playing these "characters" who know little to nothing about the subjects they're paid to speak about. Even Sharpe, who actually played the game, does nothing but "hate the Cowboys" in order to play the foil to Bayless and get a steady paycheck. He brings little to nothing in the way of support of his claims, but instead gets paid to sit there and say "Cowboys suck Skeeup!"

It saddens me that there are so many people dumb enough to tune in and give these clowns ratings that justify those fat paychecks.

This right here proves you have a preference are are using that to make a choice. Urban does one thing. He adapts. Sure he is a college coach now. I believe he would bring his offense of course but he would also adapt the NFL Game. Watching videos of him discussing ST x and os is mind blowing. The guy just knows football.

This is all hot garbage. I've never heard a single coach say anything bad about working for Jerry other than Jimmy, and even he praises Jerry. Their issue was two newcomers to the NFL who both wanted the limelight and credit. As far as football goes, even Parcells liked working for Jerry.

Jerry spends the money, signs the contracts, and makes the draft picks and trades that his coach wants. He doesn't coach or dictate. He just likes the spotlight.

If a coach wants the spotlight only on him and for the owner to stay in the shadows, then don't come to Dallas, but that has nothing to do with winning football games. If he wants an owner who isn't tight with his money, who will wheel and deal, take chances, and spend money to get the players he wants, then Jerry is the man.

I heard Mike Bascik on the fan tell the story a few months ago about how he was on cold pizza...which is what first take used to be called on ESPN. anyway he was on there for giving up the record breaking home run to barry bonds and he said before they went on the air Skip bayless was asking him what he knew about Tony Romo because bayless knew nothing about him.

Seems like a weird story since that was in 07 and Romo played in 06 but that is what Bacsik claimed that day on the radio.

either way you are 100% right. Those shows are for guys who are really busy and can not dig into details of the teams and the storylines. They just take those shows at their word because that is where they get their info.
