Fisher: Fans bothered by Jerry's strange reaction to Will McClay

Personally,,,,I think McClay is over-rated. And the latest drafts are proof. The more they let this guy set up the draft board....the worse our drafts are becoming. He's constantly reaching for need....Instead of selecting the best player.
That could be because we never participate in free agency and fill any of the needs like normal teams do

Let's not forget coaches play an important role also........

Funny listening to Jerry include Dak as if he knew what he was getting at the time of the draft but the truth is he had ZERO confidence in Dak all through Romo's injury. It took missing on Paxon Lynch, a 2nd rounder ( can't think of his name ) AND a Kellen Moore injury before he was FORCED to give Dak a chance. If the draft falls a certain way .....Dak isn't even on the team.

They wanted Connor Cook in the 4th IIRC. Raiders took him.

It was Dak vs Showers after Moore went down.

Jerry is losing it more and more every day, yet never takes the blame or wants the tough questions to come his way

Exactly.........it took FOUR failed markers before even so the field. Yet Jerry wanna us to believe Dak was some genius find he made.
** Paxon Lynch
** Connor Cook
** Kellen Moore ( injury)
** Romo (injury )

So as we watch all the playoff games and see all the young GM’s for all these playoff teams, I take solace that knowing an 82 year old man is in charge of picking our players……

Cowboys vice president of player personnel Will McClay, like McCarthy, also has an expiring contract. And Jones' answers to our media questions about the McClay plan do not exactly create confidence in this GM among Cowboys Nation members.

When first asked, Jones replied, “I’m not discussing any of that, at all.''

But as has always been the case when Jerry offers a "no comment,'' what he ends up meaning, is "No comment, but ...''

“I’m not discussing any of that,” Jones repeated. “I’ll discuss how much I think of Will McClay. I’ll discuss that, but I’m not going to give any type of — that can go one way or the other. That’s like it’s something that I need to be concerned about. I don’t necessarily know that.”

"Will gathers the information for the scouting,” Jones said. “He doesn’t pick the players. He gathers the information for the scouting. He’s one of the best at gathering the information for the scouting. Is he one of the people that I would use to give me information and evaluation? Yes. He’s one of them. And Will’s outstanding at this."

"Of course, we have a great relationship with each other.''

“Is he perfect? Does he know how to, say, pick all of the good players? No. We all tried to go past (Micah) Parsons. And we all waited to the fourth round to pick Dak (Prescott). So much for any brains in the room at all,'' Jones said in a half-joke."

"I really enjoy, personally, working with Will and I think he’s very competent. I’m not trying to downplay it,'' he said. "I just don’t want to make it an issue because it’s not, in my mind.”

Remember when I said this team almost didnt pick Micah.

Thats how dumb this franchise is. They luck into players more often than they intentionally pick them.

Yes they wanted one of the two corners.

But in fairness, we can do that with any team. Emmitt Smith wasn't Jimmy's target either. Circumstances led to him.

If the Patriots were so smart why did they wait until the 6th round to draft Tom Brady?

@#$!@#$@! Jerry!!!

He just had to "dispel" the "myth" that McClay is good at picking players. It ain't Stephen. It ain't Will. It must be...Jerry!!!

Tough blow for those who pretend Will is the real GM here.
It's not a pretend...the alternative is to imagine that Jerry is doing the scouting.

And Jerry said "gather information". What de ....? It's not like scouts go to Wikipedia! They evaluate, analyze, confer and then put out info. That's basically all of scouting.

So yeah, he does not have GM powers, but the main job - evaluating current/future players - that's Will. And that alone is a big deal...even if Klampett won't say that.

You're not a GM if you don't have decision making power.

Will McClay is not in any way the GM here. He is more of a secretary than he is a GM.

Jerry is bothered by the fact McClay gets credit for the Cowboys draft picks. Good-bye, Will.

This is why the Cowboys do not get past the first round of the playoffs, and it is why they will not win until Jerry let's go of the team.

I can only assume Gene is a terrible mother or Jerry would have divorced her by now for getting too much credit for raising the kids.

I am only calling out the people that use Parsons as the whole "we draft WELL" crowd. They didnt want him. LOL

I still think they should get credit for it. Jimmy got credit for Emmitt. The Patriots got credit for Brady.

They saw Micah as the top pass rusher in that draft and they turned out to be right about it.

He wasn't their top target but if that's the criteria we have to dismiss almost every draft pick.
