I've been trying to tell everyone this for a very long time.

Those who don't like any pick that was made needs to direct their displeasure at Jerry.
I think that's just Jerry wanting to take all the credit. I very sincerely doubt he knows who most of the players are that we pick. I think Jerry's statement of "We all tried to go past Micah" shows that McClay is included in that all. There are several voices, but ultimately, Jerry and Stephen turn in the pick, so they are responsible for it. But we shouldn't take what Jerry says as meaning that McClay isn't trying to give him "all of the good players" pick and Jerry's saying no.

I think most of us already knew Will was a glorified scout.
Exactly.................Jerry just said it himself, Will does not pick the players, he just gathers intel.

That is called a scout ladies and gents, the idea that he is the GM behind the scenes is just major cope from the fan base.

So only one person should be accountable for bad picks?
The point is that Jerry has the final say on everything, Will and all the other scouts just gather intel and give Jerry their opinions, but make no mistake about it, Jerry is the dude writing the name on the draft card.

A lot of folks here want to pretend this is not the case, but reality has way of biotch slapping you in the face whether you are ready for it or not.

Let's not forget coaches play an important role also........

Funny listening to Jerry include Dak as if he knew what he was getting at the time of the draft but the truth is he had ZERO confidence in Dak all through Romo's injury. It took missing on Paxon Lynch, a 2nd rounder ( can't think of his name ) AND a Kellen Moore injury before he was FORCED to give Dak a chance. If the draft falls a certain way .....Dak isn't even on the team.

It’s why Parcells did the best overall rebuild job after Jimmy left. McCarthy with DQ did a good job too rebuilding the scraps from Garrett, especially a defense that was the worst in the NFL, Garrett could somewhat build offenses. Must have those veteran NFL Coaches who can build a team with Jerry in the mix. Go watch the Draft Day videos on Cowboys.Com. Parcells had to talk Jerry into a lot of those picks. Stephen kept him from going wild on Jerry Manziel. Garrett to his credit was the one who convinced Jerry to rebuild the offensive line into a powerhouse. And his dad was the one who jumped on the table telling Jerry that Randy Moss was a once in a lifetime talent. DQ was probably jumping on the table for Jerry to get Bobby Wagner. I guess everyone including McCarthy rolled over on the RB decision this year when Henry wanted to come and a few more upgrades were available at reasonable contracts. Jerry was too locked in to re-signing Dak as the highest paid NFL player when he could have done what Jimmy Johnson suggested and just play the contract out and get him much cheaper.

That Mazi Smith draft room scene suggested that whilst Will doesnt make the final decision he's HEAVILY influential in supplying Jerry with advice.

"I really enjoy, personally, working with Will and I think he’s very competent. I’m not trying to downplay it,'' he said. "I just don’t want to make it an issue because it’s not, in my mind.”
Are we happy with someone whom Jerry believes is "very competent"?

Cowboys vice president of player personnel Will McClay, like McCarthy, also has an expiring contract. And Jones' answers to our media questions about the McClay plan do not exactly create confidence in this GM among Cowboys Nation members.

When first asked, Jones replied, “I’m not discussing any of that, at all.''

But as has always been the case when Jerry offers a "no comment,'' what he ends up meaning, is "No comment, but ...''

“I’m not discussing any of that,” Jones repeated. “I’ll discuss how much I think of Will McClay. I’ll discuss that, but I’m not going to give any type of — that can go one way or the other. That’s like it’s something that I need to be concerned about. I don’t necessarily know that.”

"Will gathers the information for the scouting,” Jones said. “He doesn’t pick the players. He gathers the information for the scouting. He’s one of the best at gathering the information for the scouting. Is he one of the people that I would use to give me information and evaluation? Yes. He’s one of them. And Will’s outstanding at this."

"Of course, we have a great relationship with each other.''

“Is he perfect? Does he know how to, say, pick all of the good players? No. We all tried to go past (Micah) Parsons. And we all waited to the fourth round to pick Dak (Prescott). So much for any brains in the room at all,'' Jones said in a half-joke."

"I really enjoy, personally, working with Will and I think he’s very competent. I’m not trying to downplay it,'' he said. "I just don’t want to make it an issue because it’s not, in my mind.”

Jerry is tired of cleaning up McClay's mess of a draft.

Personally,,,,I think McClay is over-rated. And the latest drafts are proof. The more they let this guy set up the draft board....the worse our drafts are becoming. He's constantly reaching for need....Instead of selecting the best player.
