They were stuck with Elliott this year anyway. The only way they could have saved any cap space was via trade and what team is trading for an aging TB with base salaries ranging from $10.0 million to $16 million over the next 3-4 years?

No one was. Elliott will go down as one of the dumber contracts Jerry/Stephen handed out. If they were smart, they'd pull the parachute at the first realistic chance, and that's next year.

But the reality is that Elliott is a favorite of theirs. They used the 4th pick on him. They also love this whole notion of going against the grain to show how smart they are. So with fans and experts saying it was a silly contract and they need to dump Elliott soon, those two guys will be like "Screw that, we are smarter than they are! We are gonna keep Zeke."

As I said, my only hope comes from the fact they didn't touch his contract when they restructured guys this offseason. That leaves the "out" still possible after this year.

Does everyone remember they restructured him needlessly last off season making it near impossible to cut him this offseason?

The idiocy of Jerry and Stephen is mindnumbing if that's the case. Elliott has an 18 million and 16 million cap hit the next two seasons. The stupidity of that is epic.

Right. It's nearly a $12 million extra cap hit to cut him this year. It's stupid to even consider it.

Next year, they save nearly $5 million against the cap by cutting him, so Elliott will need to play like one of the top five backs in the league in order to not get cut or asked to take a pay cut. It's most likely if he played like one of the top-five backs in the league that we would restructure so that his cap hit for the next couple of years is not nearly as high. And I have no problem with that if he's playing at a high level.

I was in the pay Zeke camp and really liked him and wanted him to get payed. Boy was I wrong! I thought he was built like truck and would be a solid back and would last 8 years. Didn't realize the shelf life was going to be so short for him. It seems like ever since Leveon Bell started that dancing routine behind the line of scrimmage waiting for a hole Zeke has seen that and ruined his game. Most of us can see that Zeke is done but it's going to take one more year for Jerry to realize.

I believe the upgrade of LG combined with the development of 1 of our young Centers will greatly improve the running game

You get drafted by the Cowboys, especially high, then you basically have a job for life. The only way you don't is if you decide with your own freewill that you want to go somewhere else.

The decisions that Jerry and Stephen make they give an over abundance of time to succeed. Jason Garrett, Conner Williams, Jaylon Smith, LVE, Kellen Moore, Tristan Hill just to name a few.

Agree, but then we come back around to Jerry accepting that the football decision to give Zeke the contract was a big mistake....at the time and confirmed in hindsight.

If comparing to what happened to the Tank contract, we need to take into account that DlAW'S's still getting $35m guaranteed money from 2023. If 'regoing' Zeke's contract still gives him increased guaranteed money moving forward then we just need to bite the bullet and release him in 2023.

We all point to Zeke as the poster child for bad running back contracts but at least he plays games. Kamara, Henry, and CMC have missed over 6 games in a season since signing there extensions. Gurley and Bell were absolute disasters. I don’t know if one of the big running back contracts have worked out. Word is the Giants tried to trade Barkley in offseason but nobody wanted to offer a premium pick. The 49ers have the blueprint on running backs, the Cowboys need to follow their plan.
