Fix the trenches

No, it's the front 7, and then the back 7. And it all sucks, no reason to make excuses for any part of this crapp D. Our DLine consistently gives QB's all day to throw and can't stop the run. What about them makes you say they're even competent?
We draft two guys that could potentially be starters at CB. 1 is, another has the talent. Brown is on an affordable deal. With the time missed, Awuzie might even be willing to take a 1 year deal. Im ok with sitting CB. DT and Safety not so much.

Hill looks good. But is he good, or is he Tyrone Crawford 2014 good. We spent a 3rd on Gallimore, but to me he is more of a quality #3 DT. I dont think he has enough traits to be a quality starter at either DT position. We need a premium talent there.

Safety, lets just forget the quality for a second and keep Wilson is the only one we have under contract for 2021

Switching to a 3-4 in a year with little time to practice was a mistake. McCarthy hired Nolan and approved his defensive philosophy. Jerry bought into McCarthy.

All mistakes. Live and learn. Just not our year again.

No go watch other good defenses, their DB’s come up and take pride in tackling. Ours purposely run away from the ball carrier or out of bounds. It’s evident on film when you break it down. The DL hasn’t been able to rush the passer because they haven’t been able to. The team hasn’t had a freaking lead for all of 10 minutes in 4 games!!!!

Absolutely agreed.

If you watched Hill and Lawrence made a lot of good plays today. Can you say anything good about the DB’s? Did they make a single decent play all day? How about Jaylon Smith? The DL is pressing too much because they know how terrible the rest of the defense is! And on top of that the team never has the freaking lead!

Dude they’ve played a 3-4 literally like in 5-10% of the snaps all season. They don’t have good enough players no matter what scheme you’re in. Our secondary is a bunch of nobodies.

3-4 or 5-2 is the same thing. Are they running a 4-3 out there?

So glad we are throwing away another year on a poor DC hire.

But frankly, that the Cowboys right there for you. This is looking like a historically bad year for the NFCE and we still might not make the playoffs because we have a historically terrible D? That's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Dallas Cowboys.

Please stop drafting LBs high. I know Jerry loves the jersey-selling potential of a star LB but you can always find serviceable LBs later in the draft. The same can't be said for quality OT/DL/DB. After the burnouts of LVE and Jaylon, we will have to sit out drafting LB early for a few more years.

Who were Cleveland's LBs? Exactly.

This team will continue to be mediocre (if that) until we get better in the trenches.

That was the biggest difference in this game. Cleveland was way better in the trenches on both sides. Their $20m DE made game changing plays while ours is a glorified run-stopper.

We need 2 DTs and another pass rusher or the defense is going to continue to suck.

Yep, they signed 1 very good OT in the offseason and drafted another that got very high marks. Dallas got whopped on both sides of the line.

It’s the back 7 that’s the problem not the front 7. They don’t help in run support, and can’t cover. Trysten Hill has become a really good player if you know how to watch film. It’s not our pass rushers fault we can’t have any type of lead so they can have a chance to rush the passer.
Wow

We really weren't in a position to do much about in the 1st the season unless you wanted to make a pretty large. Top tier DT talent gone. Weak DE draft. Im not gonna make a another Taco pick because we need a DT or DE. Roster building doesnt occuring over just one season. There will likely be opportunities to add top level talent at those spots in the near future. A value like Lamb is just not something you pass on, unless you get a better value

While I agree we did the right thing getting Lamb in the draft. We did some ridiculous stuff on the D-line and spent a fortune doing it. If we cut Crawford, and just signed Dontari Poe, and Aldon Smith we would have an extra 20m to spend on the elsewhere. That's the difference between Anthony Brown, Haha Clinton-Dix, and Joe Looney and three Pro-bowl level players in their place.

Inability to evaluate a DL. Now you go watch other DLines and watch how they penetrate and disrupt. Then watch how ours doesn't. If you don't see it, you're trying hard not to.
