I would love to be wrong, but I don't think Taco Charlton is going to be the answer to our pass rush woes. I think next year we'll see him playing a lot more at left end replacing Lawrence.

I can certainly see us in the position of needing to draft a defensive end and defensive tackle high next year.

I think we're stuck with Crawford again in 2018, but after that, he needs to be gone. Knowing that the team needs to start taking the line more seriously.

2018 1st rounder - Collins - 2018 2nd rounder - Charlton
mayowa - irving - paea - tapper

Depending on how well we do this year I would certainly think about trading up for Arden Key or drafting Harold Landry.

I think we do have the fortunate situation of having a stacked roster outside of defensive line and safety now, that they have no excuse but to invest in the line. Stop trying to get Marinelli to squeeze water from rocks.

I think the defensive line is going to continue to cost us games against playoff caliber teams.

2017 - rnd 1 - Taco Charlton
2016 - rnd 3 - Maliek Collins
2016 - rnd 4 - Charles Tapper
2015 - rnd 5 - Ryan Russell
2014 - rnd 2 - Demarcus Lawrence

?????

That isn't a great investment, especially with a 4-5 year reset....

The reality is you have one first round draft pick at the end of the first round in the last 4 years... That's seriously anemic when you consider the state of the defensive line when we drafted Lawrence...

...and your argument is moot considering the pick in those years have built the dominant offensive line and one of the best QB/RB tandem, I'm just glad we are actually developing and resigning our own players instead of bringing in expensive fill in players from another team that crippled us for years.

I love how people defend this team as if we've been knocking on the door of a championship the last few years...

We've been to the playoffs twice in seven years under Garrett and he is 1-2 in the playoffs...

We've been investing in offense since before Garrett was head coach and we've ignored defense the entire time to no avail. The investments we did make on defense were always in the secondary instead of up front where most plays are determined.

Lets say from your "expert opinion" that the Cowboys had gone by way of drafting and building the defense, one can only imagine what our offense would be like today. Would we have one of the best if not the best offensive line? Would we have Dak/Zeke leading the offense today? It just frustrates me the so called "couch GM's" of a fan we have there think they could put together a SB team together. If that were the case how is it you are not a GM for a pro team by now?

You forgot Gregory, a 2nd rounder.

And then there was Hardy.

Tyrone Crawford was a 3rd rounder. They invested a sizable bag of cash in signing Thornton. And apparently David Irving's sacks from last season don't count because he was signed off a practice squad.

We haven't "invested" in QBs since Quincy Carter but we got multiple Pro Bowls out of Romo, with plenty more to come from last year's 4th round pick.

So... twice in the last 3 years. and the year he didn't he lost his starting QB for the season.

Garrett had an old, expensive roster when he took over. Now he is finally re-making it how he thinks it should be constructed and the team is generally looked at as one of the more talented teams in the league with what might be considered by some as the best team culture in sports.

Now he's finishing up on defense after guiding a team with a pretty average defense to a 13 win season and coach of the year honors.

That is the amazing part, we played with two corners everyone has been screaming for the FO to get rid of for the past 3 years, with only one defensive player that is recognized as an All Pro in Sean Lee. I believe our interior Dline lead by a rising young player in Maliek Collins, the LB group is steady and solid and can only get better with Jaylon getting healthier, if the 3 CB's we recruited even come close to what Anthony Brown was able to produce as a rookie last year I'd like to think the FO is doing just fine minus missteps with Gregory and injuries (Tapper, Lawrence).

I am not sure about all of the conclusions you have drawn. I agree that our DL has been a significant weak link. But all facets of your team can't use a first round pick. You only get one per year.

I understand that you think that we should have been using more draft capital on the DL. I'm not sure that's fair. We have used a 2nd and a 3rd on Lawrence, a second on Gregory, a 4th on Tapper, and a 1st on Taco this year. We used a high 3rd on Collins and I think a 3rd on Crawford. That's significant draft capital.

I am not sold on Taco either. I don't think he will be the right end or at least an effective pass rushing right end. I hope I'm wrong about that. I think our best RE hopeful may be Tapper. He could be the real deal. If Taco eventually ties down that left end spot and Tapper can win the right end spot along with Collins at the 3 tech, then we have 3 good strong YOUNG pieces to work with on the DL.

I'm not really sold on Marinelli either. Let's hope he starts to show he still has it this season.
