Folk May Be Released or Put on IR...Kicker Search Underway

actually, I've learned not to assume folks know what they are talking about on this board. For example, year after year we get the "put him on PuP" suggestions for guys who get hurt in pre season.

Not everyone is clueless though. Is it too much to acknowledge that?

Dang I liked Nick Folk - remember the bomb he hit in Buffalo?

Didn't he hit it like twice in a row too because they tried to ice him? Man.........hate to see it end like this for him. Especially this early in his career.

Would be nice to be able to shut him down and let him work on his mechanics, much like a pitcher.

You just know if he were to be cut, he'd play for another team and kick a 60 yd game winner against us.

He kicked FGs just fine at USC. He just hasn't done it at all this year until they told him this week to try and make a few and obviously, he was rusty. IMO, he'd be fine if he had been kicking them all season. I'd imagine kicking is like a golf swing. You can't take a few months off and expect to just jump right in and be good at it.

You'd think, as a kicker, that he would've been able to squeeze in a little practice this year at kicking FG's, especially with the way Folk has sucked so bad this year.

Last night I said in the chat to cut his arse, but upon reflection I see the value of waiting, sending him to a sports shrink, working with him or whatever is deemed appropriate to get him back to mr. reliable.

Whether it's mental or physical, I would hold onto him and give him another chance next summer. I can just see us letting him go now and he gets his issues corrected and becomes a long term pro bowler for some other team.

Remember how proud Jerry was of himself for drafting Buehler? Seems like a lot of teams have guys who can boom kick-offs deep AND hit FGs. Part of the reason Folk hasn't been cut or IR'ed or whatever is they just don't want to admit failure.

I know. If we just needed a long kickoff specialist, I can't believe we couldn't have found a rookie or veteran free agent to fill that role. But since we did draft Buehler then he should be good enough to kick up to 40 yard FGs now. Even if he's not the regular FG kicker, I can't believe all he does all season in practice is just kickoff. If so, then that's just flat out dumb. Does our backup QB just hold the clipboard? I'm sure he's not getting first string snaps, but I would think he is practicing passing in case he's called upon.

I agree because GB may be doing the same thing here soon.

I will say I hope we do bring Folk back next season if he is released or put on IR. I think he has shown over the last 2 years he is a quality kicker but right now he is a kicker with no confidence

I wonder if it isn't something as simple as his eyesight. Maybe he needs to have his eyes checked. Some new contacts might be the answer.

He's probably the best option at this point. What better way to get on a streak than against your former team?

Hmmmmmmmm....he kinda sucks and has missed a kick vs. the saints AND the cowboys that cost the skins games....maybe he's kicked well enought at Fed EX but.....this makes me nervous guys.........he isn't much of an upgrade: AT ALL IMO

We're not going to find a really good and clutch kicker right now. We just need someone who can kick it through the uprights more than Folk has lately. That wouldn't take much.

This is nobody's fault, really, and there's not a whole lot we can do about it. Grab Suisham, throw Folk on IR, shake it off and move on. If our season ends on a shanked kick, so be it.
