If you perform, Jerry rewards you with BIG money. Not only that, he surrounds you with so much "talent" that you NEVER have to do as much as you did to get the big money. Almost EVERYONE that starts for this team has been given a contract extension. Which means Jerry has rewarded them because he thought they would take the next step. Let's go through the starters

Offense:
QB - Romo big money EXTENSION. Which means Jerry thinks you are good and getting better.
RB - Barber big money EXTENSION. Felix Jones first round pick
TE - Witten big money EXTENSION. Benett 2nd round pick
C - Gurode big money EXTENSION
LG - Kosier, free agent pick up, small money
RG - Leoanard Davis was signed 3 years ago and given the biggest bonus in the history of the franchise at the time.
LT - Doug Free. He is our best OL right now. Is he great? No! But he is better than anything we got and he too will get a big money EXTENSION.
RT - Columbo, he got an EXTENSION...the money was medium
WR - Roy Williams....I won't even bother. Miles Austin, big money EXTENSION.

So everyone on offense was drafted except 2 players. I count Roy as a draft pick since we gave up a 1st and 3rd for him. But more importantly, we locked them all up to EXTENSIONS after watching them play for a few years. That means we could have cut them or moved on, decided not to and should EXPECT them to be competing for Super Bowls right now. Else, why sign them to EXTENSIONS?

Defense:
OLB - Ware, highest paid player on the team via an EXTENSION. Spencer, first round pick and lining up for his EXTENSION
ILB - James, big money EXTENSION. Brooking, cheap free agent pickup
CB - Newman big money EXTENSION. Jenkins, first round pick and is lining up for his EXTENSION
NT - Ratliff, big money EXTENSION at the time..and lining up for an even bigger one in a year or 2
DE - Spears, first round pick. The one player it appears Dallas is going to let walk. Olshansky free agent pick up for big money
FS - Alan Ball, cheap player we drafted in the 7th round as a CB who has looked AWFUL on his conversion to FS
SS - Gerald Sensabaugh, signed as a free agent to medium money

Again, most of the guys on defense were drafted. Most have been extended. And looks like Spencer and Jenkins are lining up for there EXTENSION
So we drafted them, kept them and have to live with them. And right now, it looks like they are not good enough!

No comments on the fact that Jerry drafted and EXTENDED the majority of this team to preserve continuity. He EXTENDED Wade to preserve continuity. Yet we show CONFUSION on defense. On offense we treat the endzone like a STD. Am I just off here? If so, that's fine. Just bewlidered on how we look like an expansion team!

I guess you're right, although I see things a little differently. I happen to like the fact that Jerry takes care of the players who earn it. Yes, sometimes he jumps the gun a little (Hamlin), but all in all I think he's done a very good job of locking up some of the premier talent in the league at very reasonable rates. Look at Romo's contract compared to Eli's...Look at the bargain we are getting with Ratliff!

As for Free, I hope we lock him up right away as well. I think he's better than just pretty good for being a first year starter, and he has the ability to get even better. I also really hope that we realize just how valuable Spears is to our D-line, and lock him up as well.

I hear you....but I question how sound this. Based on my analysis...who do we ever move on from? If we keep EVERYONE....I would think it is because we think they are ready to take the next step. If they are this good...where are the results. As fans we all know we overrate our players...but our scouts and coaches get paid to look at every player in the NFL and make these judgements. I mean if we are pushing for continuity...how come there is so much confusion on defense. How come there are so many penalites. How come we cannot score. It seems like the contnuity we are promoting is a defense that cannot create turnovers...and offense that cannot score....and a team that is one of the league leaders in penalties!

The fact that we can only score 1 offensive TD per game is just bizzare with this much talent.

It couldnt be the coaching, could it???;)

When you look at the Saints...they have players who could not even MAKE THE TEAM in Dallas...contributing to winning Super Bowls. For evey Colston we have Roy Williams. For every REggie Bush we have Felix Jones. For every Pierre Thomas we have Marion Barber. For every Bobby Meacham we have Miles Austin. For every Devery Henderson we have Dez Bryant. For every Jeremey Shockey we have Jason Witten. But do we have a Sean Peyton for every Jason Garrett? I hope this answers your question.
