For the money Dak wants, Cowboys could get just about any QB they want

Then they should give him the none exclusive tag and find out what the market will offer him. Once they know that, then the Cowboys can decide to match the offer or accept the two number 1 picks in exchange for Dak. That would serve all parties best in my view. It would once and for all, set the market or it would compensate the Cowboys for the loss of Prescott.

There is absolutely no way a team will give up two first round picks for Dak and also pay him a salary so large that the Cowboys decided not to match.

For the kind of money Dak Prescott is wanting, the Cowboys can get just about any quarterback they want- even an established veteran from another team.
Why would a new head coach want to be forced to base his success on a quarterback who choked in front of the entire NFL in 2019?
The Cowboys can make a deal to trade up to the number one overall pick and take Burrows or Lawrence, or they can take Case Keenum in free agency and draft a successor.
They could go after Teddy Bridgewater, Nick Foles, or even Derek Carr. All of these quarterbacks mentioned have more impressive resumes than Dak.
I think Dak can be serviceable, but not great. And the Cowboys can't afford to invest the kind of money he is demanding in him after his poor performance in the last 8 games of 2019.
With a new head coach and personnel changes that will inevitably come with him, the Cowboys would be silly to invest big money into a quarterback who the film shows missed wide open receivers repeatedly with the 2019 season on the line.
The Cowboys can win next season, but they will have to do it with a more consistent quarterback.
Prescott was Garrett's last best hope.
They both showed all of the trademarks of Garrett's tenure in Dallas.
I like your thought process and let’s go through it.
How do we get Burrows? What would it take to get him from Cincy? Two firsts and two seconds?
Lawrence is not even eligible till next year. If you want to tank then just keep Garrett and try for 0-16.
How about we get Tua if he declares. We would have to trade into top 10 I believe.
Let’s get Keenum. 2 years 20 million. I would go all in in FA and address and sign every big guy.
Bridgewater will be more expensive than Keenum. And how good is he?
There is Rivers but I think he is past his prime.
How about Winston? 30 & 30
Mariotta- has career backup look or just needs a system reboot
Derek Carr- hard no. He sucks.

I'm sold on Keenum. If it were my call he'd be in Dallas already.
Dak would get the non-exclusive tag and hopefully garner us some picks.
Like you, I would be looking to add strength to both sides of the line.
And I'd be looking for speed at the wideouts and secondary.
And I'd be adding a tight end and a fullback to work with and implement in the backfield.
Next year Zeke would have a season the NFL would never forget.

I agree. I pretty much said that before the season ever started but whatever. It is what it is.

"Just about any QB they want"

Then goes on the list the dregs that will be free agents and unproven rookies who haven't taken a snap yet.

It's not even officially the offseason yet. Save the insanity.

Stephen did an interview about 3 days after the Philly game. Basically said the priority in the off season was still to get Dak signed long term. I'm thinking you might want to button down the hatches... Dak is going to be the QB for this team the next 8 to 10 years!

Maybe, maybe not. I don't know what they will do but I know this, it's ******** to make that decision before you hire a Head Coach. So yeah, if that's how it gets done then we all better button it up because it means that nothing is going to change. Maybe we all better get ready for a long, long winter.

Marcus Mariota will be available, too. He would be an upgrade over Dak.

You mean the guy that got benched half way through the season. LOL

Yah, way better than the NFL's leading passer and #1 offense.

Another dumb comment. :lmao::lmao::lmao2::lmao2:

Lol...poor Roy. Brother, you missed the point again. I listed those QB’s to compare Dak’s accuracy with theirs as they are all QB’s in the playoffs. You answered my question with your misdirection or confusion. Dak is not as accurate as any of them. Unless you want to disagree and provide more proof of your being a QB Whisperer....lol. If you think Bridgewayer is a joke then Dak is friggin hilarious. I wish Sean Payton was as smart as you.

Trust your eyes. And paying $35 million a year for a chronically inaccurate QB will give us a long term deficit the team will have to overcome each game, kind of like the deficit of Garrett’s coaching they had to overcome every game. Unless you think Garrett should be resigned too, Brother Roy. At least you’d be consistent...lol.

Dak was accurate enough to lead the NFL in passing and lead the #1 offense in the NFL.

Another dumb comment put to rest.

My eyes tell me that Dak is one of the best young QB's in the NFL. Without question.

Are you going to cry when he gets a nice big contract? Might be time to root for another team BROTHER. LOL

Transitional tag seems the easiest and best way to get around the situation. Is cheaper than the exclusive tag plus lets you truly see the market value of Dak. Then you can go back to negotiations if you really want to.. or take those 2 first rounders and start building a stronger list and/or trade up for a QB.

We have covered it before.. but is there anyone who seriously thinks another team will pay two firsts for Dak?!

Saying things like Dak led the league in passing and the Cowboys had the #1 rated offense (in yardage gained) means he is great, is just as STUPID as an inside salesman being touted as great because he makes the most phone calls yet is average at making sales.

Think about it.

Give me the guy who makes the most sales. (Wins)

Dak's pocket awareness on his new contract should not exceed his pocket awareness on the field, and his pocket awareness on the field is subpar at best.

Oh Brother Roy, lame statistics that mean nothing again ? That’s the best you got ? Lol. Tell me what your stats got your team ? NOTHING. Hey, do some stats on how often Dak threw behind, ahead, too high, or too low, to open receivers. And let’s play the highlight of him throwing a 4 yard swing pass in the dirt to Zeke on 3 and 5. And dude, you can get good prices on lasik surgery nowadays for those eyes...lol. Gets rid of your coke bottle vision when you’re watching quarterbacks. Sheesh.

Most of the guys he named are just backups. Bridgewater is just a bus driver.
B4 the start of the season you would have said.. oh Tannehill he is just a backup.. and a weak one at that.. and yet right now he is a playoff winning QB (I agree it wasn't a great game for him personally but he and his team did win).. Bridgewater is probably a bus driver and yet he won 5 straight including beating us.. and Seahawks away. So yeah.. there is that.

I just think there are a lot of QBs that end up in the wrong places at the wrong time and end up discarded.. if we could get elite then you pay for it and keep it.. but if you just have a middle of the road, average, QB then you pay like it.. lest your team gets destroyed at other positions.

Tannehil? I always thought he could be decent and never had a shot in MIA.

I don't buy the playoff winning thing. Sanchez won playoff games. Really doesn't prove anything. Grossman played in a super bowl. Tebow won a playoff game. Bortles should have been in a super bowl. Just because a QB wins a playoff game does not make him good.

I'm still on the fence w/ Dak. I've seen both good and bad. My thinking is that if he won't take 25ish/season, then you franchise him, or maybe even give him a 3 yr/90mil contract. Only way I'd give him longer term is if the team has outs after 3 yrs.
