For those keeping track:

Game 2 stats:
Merriman 0 tackles, 1 assist, 1 INT.
Ware: 4 tackles, 0 assist, 1 sack.

For the Season:
Merriman: 6 tackles, 1 assist, 3 sacks, 1 INT, 1 pass d, 0 FF
Ware: 8 tackles, 0 assists, 1 sack, 0 pass d, 0 FF

Even though Merriman was quite except for the INT last week, he is still dominating Ware in big plays statistics with 3 sacks, 1 int, and a pass deflection.

Merriman got most of his stats from playing Oakland, but didn't make near the impact against the Titians. The Cowboys lineup against the Titans next week. Will Ware make more of an impact against the Titans than Merriman did with an interception?

The Chargers have Ravens, Steelers, and 49ers up and the Cowboys have Titans, Eagles, and Texans up. My question is, who has better stats at the end of this 3 game stint.

I'm a huge Ware fan, but until he can prove to me he is more of an impact player in his own style of defense. I have to take Merriman.

Merriman sucks, whatever. Snore, yawn, goodnight nurse.

Merriman/Ware threads give me hernia's from shoveling the deep brown stuff.

This is idiotic (not you, nyc, but the whole notion of comparison). Anything done against inferior competition like Oakland, Houston, Tennessee, Green Bay and the like doesn't count.

Ware had 3 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in a late season game on the road in Carolina. Merriman never had a game like that. Ware covers receivers, too.

2 weeks into the season is a ridiculous point to try and create a meaningful comparison.

Actually he did have a 3 sack game against the Colts.

But I still think Ware is a better all around linebacker at this time. I don't think Merriman can do anything better than Ware.

That deep brown stuff is GOR(Y)E. Did you notice. Frank Gore is doing pretty good. Well, that was a costly fumble yesterday though... Would you like to debate Gore again? ;)

Merriman did pretty well late in the season at Indy.

If Merriman does go on to be a better player, then I still won't care too much. I just hope Ware turns into a very good player. Right now I think he is doing well and I can see him getting better. I got no problems with him being a Cowboy.

It was 2 sacks, but still an impressive showing in that game.

Two sacks in a over-hyped coming-out party. Ware single-handedly stopped drives with his plays and gave the Cowboys the ball immediately with two of them.

Different players.
Different Systems.
Different responsibilities.

The debate is rather useless.

I'm completely happy with DWare.

You mean like being used in far more different ways that impact the performance of the team defense? That kind of impact player? Or just those stats that make your pants go crazy?

Man...this is a beating...Tired head to follow.

Good teams playing against the Raiders, Texans, and Titans are useless, but till. The games must still be played and the debate will continue to rage.

Thanks, as much hype as he got for this game I could have sworn it was 3.

That pisses me off even more since after his 3 sack, 3 ff game in Carolina, I recall :espn: giving Ware almost no props.

What? You don't think Ware can get 12-15 sacks, an INTs, force fumbles, and pass deflections playing for the Cowboys?

Wow, this is a beating...

Casual fans will like Merriman, real fans of defense will understand Ware does more and has had bigger games in more important circumstances.

Ware is becoming unblockable, and he covers too. Remarkable.

I agree 100% about him being remarkable. For him to play coverage as well as he does, still be a great pass rusher, and his improvement stopping the run alone has impressed me. This kid is going to be something special. Definitely a more complete player than Merriman.

Not really. One sack was against the air and the other was on a RB and thats the game that got him to the pro bowl.

What stands out to me is Merriman went an entire game ... at strong side linebacker ... and had NO TACKLES! How does that happen? You'd figure even if he was double teamed every play he would still happen upon a tackle playing the strong side.
