For those that don't want to re-sign Dak, then who?

we could get the same type of production (bottom 3 passing attack) from a Teddy Bridgewater/Tyrod Taylor at a lower cost than it would take to resign Dak.

Why didn't the Vikings or Bills keep their "good enough" QBs?

You guys want to learn the hard way...

In this Era , the only way you are a contender consistently is if you have a top 5 QB and a top 5 coach. we have neither.

Yes, bus drivers have won the Superbowl but they did it by paying pennies to the QB while having historically good defenses and even then , their window of success was very short.

It has been proven that if you want to contend year in and year out , you need a top 5 QB and a top 5 coach..
For the sake of some factual sarcasm to lighten you up,

We do have the greatest clapper of all-time as coach
and a top 5 running QB in the NFL.

Define franchise QB

If you were a fan of any other franchise, one that wasn't spoiled by Meredith, Staubach, White, Aikman, Romo, and yes, now Dak, you'd be praying for a Dak-like guy in the fourth roun.

The Browns spend 10? first rounders or so and 20 years trying to find Mayfield.

We are blessed. Dak is a blessing. This fan base needs to knock off the Dak hate.

Mayfield is a franchise QB?

This is rich. Praytell, what are the Vikings and Bills records this year?

Top FAs this offseason look to be - Teddy Bridgewater, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, maybe Sam Bradford or Robert Griffin III

None of them are the answer, and none are going to be particularly cheap. With our pick in the late 2nd, we aren't getting a marquee QB.

Dak isn't an A or A- QB. He isn't a B+, but he is a B / B- guy with upside remaining. He's the type of guy you should want to keep around.
Draft

Ask the guy to do the same thing as Dak, stay safe with checkdowns no matter what, occasional deep ball. Allows us to keep talent throughout the team around him. Keep winning the way we're winning since they seem content with that.

Fitzpatrick is currently on 3.5m.

Dont understand why an extension is under discussion. Dak is under contract for 2019.

Dak was a blessing in the 4th round. We finally found a backup QB we can win with. He’s a gamer, playmaker and winner.

But we are spoiled with a history of prolific passing QB’s and championships. We aren’t Brown fans who latch on to the first glimpse of glory.

Just winning regular season games isn’t enough. Dak needs a top defense , league leading rusher, WR1 and solid OL to win. Imagine what a QB equal to his surrounding support would be.

That’s not bashing or hating on Dak. That’s just wanting a greater QB. Just win. Winning cures all ills.

If Dak can lead us to a championship then we’ll overlook his passing weaknesses for the team. But if we continue to come up short he will receive his due criticism much like Romo did. Is that fair?

For some reason there are fans who can’t appreciate the criticism while supporting. We’re all rooting for Daks success much like we are Jerry or Garrett but again if we come up short then they are subject to criticism.

There probably are fans with personal agendas greater than what’s best for the Cowboys. There’s always extremes on both sides. Some old Romo lovers bashing Dak and some old Romo bashers lovin’ Dak.

This is a social media anonymous fan site. It is all full of fake identities and imposters. Who knows or cares.

Calling out all fans who criticize or bring criticism on Dak is bordering on breaking the rules of this forum stopping short of individual call outs.

But the intention is still there attempting to elevate your beliefs over others. If you want to love on Dak. Go right ahead. But calling out others is agenda driven again attempting to divide and conquer.

Otherwise I’m not sure why that’s so important to you? If there’s rhetoric you don’t want to see or interact with , just ignore.

"We cant get anyone better" or "The Jones will mess up" arent valid reasons for extending Dak.

These excuses are like someone in a bad relationship saying they are getting married because they cant do any better.

If a QB is to be extended on a big contract it should be for positive reasons and because they're worth it.

Dont kid yourself! Bridgewater or Fitzpatrick would be an upgrade over Dak. Even Flacco or Eli Manning would be an upgrade over Dak in this offense!
Dak is servicable with this defense and Zeke as a regular season QB for right now but by no means should the Dallas Cowboys organization sign him as their franchise QB. Dak is getting better and has one more season on his rookie contract so let him play it out and hope that he hones his game good enough to at least be a solid middle of the pack QB. But in the mean time start figuring out how Dallas can move up in the 2020 draft for a Herbet, Stidham, Fromm. Even Tua could be available if they dont want to trade up in the first round.

Tell me what the roster looks like after we pay Lawrence, Jones, Cooper. If you over pay Dak and Jerry likely will then the rest of our roster will suffer. He's an average player who needs a ton of help and if paid then they also stop looking at trying to develop another guy. At his current salary he's ok but not at anything close to starting QB salary.
My concern too! They are going to have to pay Zeke and Jaylon Smith too and they will also need to replace Tyron Smith because that guy is taking a chunk of the salary cap. They restructured him too many times and Dallas will be paying him long after he is off the roster. People are saying oh I wouldnt mind Dak but not for 100 mil. Well lets just say they get Dak on the cheap for like 12 mil a year for 5 years. That would be the worst thing that could happen because the search for a franchise QB would stop! Thats not only 60 mil but thats 5 years of Dallas being stuck in neutral. Your wasting everyone elses salary and time by not continuing to try and get better at QB .

Yawn. Draft, and build. I'm not against Dak by any means, but I think we can continue to build competition at the position, and get better. I also believe Dak possesses the skill to be better than he is. This crap is old. Dak can play better than he is. Also, there is more than one fish in the sea.

There are a lot of people advocating signing Dak to a c.15-20m per year contract because other teams have signed mediocre QBs to similar deals due to lack of options. I think its safe to say this strategy isnt working for these teams. Did any improve?

Vikings/Cousins
Broncos/Keenum
Dolphins/Tannehill
Jags/Bortles
Commanders/Smith.

So the strong evidence is this is NOT the way to go.

What about the teams who ditched their mediocre QBs and went with the draft?

Rams
Eagles
Bears
Browns
Chiefs
Texans
